Waiting on Second yearly blood test

Send some positive vibes as I hope for better numbers this time . I’ve been bad on my diet I’m trying but i haven’t done great I weigh 146 and I was 138 last visit so that may affect it. As of alcohol I’ve only had a few drinks here and there as I’m not really interested in it. Other than socially. My Ultrasound was clear. I’m just wondering why I always have abnormal liver enzymes year after year going on 10 years now.

Liver enzymes can be affected by a lot of things but long term high values should be investigated to figure them out. One thing you can do as step one is calculate your FIB-4 score. It gives a probability of whether you may have scarring in your liver. It doesn't prove anything but can guide a doc to next steps in diagnosis.

Thanks for your reply I’ll try the calculator as of latelyALT 36

AST 30

Both considered at the lab slightly elevated

I had a scan done in November it was clear but I know ultrasounds aren’t always reliable that was my second one for the year

The result on the calculator was 0.68 but I don’t understand what it means

Remember it is a probability calculator not a diagnostic tool, but it means that there is a high probability that you no NOT have advanced fibrosis. Doesn't mean you can't have liver disease but the issue isn't likely to be NASH/cirrhosis. Docs will use it to help decide what kinds of tests are appropriate to figure out what is going on with you.

Thanks for your reply. I’ve been followed by a specialist for some time and my PCP is also good at keeping An eye

Wayne, is there a chart that shows the staging that correlates with score with fib 4?

(Like the chart that goes with the fibroscan)

I am at 1.21 and can’t find what neighborhood that would be in (f0-f4)

I am not overweight at all

It doesn't have a chart as it is a probability calculator. Below 1.45 means you have a low probability of having advanced fibrosis. Other tests would have to be used, such as FibroScan to see if you have any fibrosis or if you are still dealing with fatty liver NAFLD.

I have tried to stay on my low carb diet but sometimes I cheat, BUT I never drink any more!! I was told alcohol is poison to my liver and I want to continue to live a long life, a drink is not worth years off my life ???

That’s great. I cut back on alcohol Other than a special occasion here and there like I said. I’ve had many pregnancies that resulted in my 3 children my youngest is one years old. So I’ve had no problem in quitting alcohol all together with the pregnancy’s. I am on Xanax and Prozac and my dr is thinking there’s a link there with the raised enzymes

My blood work is almost always normal and I'm in stage 4 Nash cirrohis. Blood work doesn't tell you anything and like my Dr. said when you blood work goes up, it's to late for you. I know a gentlemen with NASH that had perfect blood work. Don't watch your blood, it's not the right test for Liver Disease.

Not what you're looking for?
