As non-medical people we really can't interpret diagnostic results. However, nothing is going to happen between now and Monday, so you can rest easier. They will get to the bottom of your elevated ALT and proceed from there. It's a process. Awareness first (you know your results), plan of action next. Stay focused. Fear and anxiety are normal, but are distractors. Just stick to the plan and keep moving forward. It's the best medicine.

Thank you. Doctor gave me a call after results to say he will repeat in 4 weeks. This will be the 4th result then.

My ALT and AST and bilirubin were elevated for 5 years before i found out about NAFLD and NASH. I got with the program 9 months ago and for the first time in 5 years they are back to normal. So be patient, but keep moving forward. If you're doctor doesn't have a plan for you after the next test, consider another opinion. You can reverse this, but you need to know what's causing it first.

You have put my mind at so much ease. Obviously there is something there but it’s reversible and I do have NAFLD so I feel better

Knowing you have NAFLD might be an explanation, great you are being monitored by your doctor.

During the next 4 weeks you might like to try looking at any of the areas that can increase this enzyme and make any changes to improve them.

Looking at your health and wellbeing, including your diet is a good way of starting to improve ALT in NAFLD.

Thank you Gillian. Do you have any advice on how to improve them? I have tried a healthy diet. I do struggle though cause I gave up cigarettes and alcohol 12 months ago and turned to food instead. I’m not overweight cause of my active lifestyle just like to eat

Eating the right foods is important and simple changes do not mean you need to deprive yourself of meaningful foods. Staying away from sugary foods eg fruit juice, sweets etc. Reduce or remove refined carbohydrates as in pasta, bread, cakes, anything really that is made with flour. Eat healthy fats like extra virgin olive oil, lean meat such as chicken breast, fish. Nuts, legumes, try using quinoa instead of rice, really easy to make and great in salads too. So much information available for NAFLD food choices.
