Keto vs Mediterranean

Hi guys. I need to pick everyone’s brain here. I was doing a somewhat Mediterranean diet and have now moved to a Keto minus all the fatty things one could have but don’t.

What are your thoughts? Pro’s/Con’s

My dr. said no Keto, but she allowed me to try the Optavia plan, then she said slow down and I did. I feel great down 48 pounds since June 28th.

The research all recommends Mediterranean, not keto. Consider some fasting (or fasting mimicking) as well.

Thank you. My problem lies with portion control on Mediterranean as I eat all kinds of fruit and because it’s healthy I over indulge. Then I gain weight. Any thoughts there? How does one control the eating when it’s healthy. Unfortunately I’m more of a quantity than quality.

Mediterranean doesn't mean you have to eat everything that's offered. You're not going to chow down on huge blocks of feta and lamb chops. For our purposes here, we mean mostly vegetables with a "little" fish. Fruit is still sugar and should be minimized. As far as portion control goes, it's everyone's problem, especially if you're the one cooking, because you tend to eat while you cook, you tend to have "seconds" and you load your plate up. What you should really do set a plate out for yourself of NORMAL size, and then put the rest away (refrigerator, etc). Don't start eating until everything is put away. Eat slow. Take a few bites, get up walk away, come back to it. Make it last. If you're hungry an hour later, make a cup of tea. Chew gum. Brush your teeth. All things to curb your appetite. Sometimes it still doesn't work. In those cases, i turn to meal services. I pick up a few vegetarian meals each week to supplement my menu. Not because the food is awesome, it isn't. It's just ok. What's awesome is the portion control is already done for you. Heat, eat, and walk away.

Thank you for sharing. It’s good to know I’m not alone on the struggle bus.

Also I appreciate the information about the fruit cause I was eating a bunch of (and I do mean a bunch) grapes everyday, fresh pineapple in the afternoon then bananas in the evening. So Now I know even though it is fruit (fresh) you still have to monitor the fruit. Ouch. Now I have to rethink this whole process.
