Struggling with sugar

I am not sure what to do! I just can’t seem to be able to give up sugar especially my morning Dr Pepper. I am not a coffee drinker so a Dr Pepper is my go to. I am still struggling with gastroparesis and can only have liquids at this point. I have tried to not have my morning Dr Pepper but then I find that I want other stuff that I should not and can not eat. I have had to give up so much with my gastroparisis that I am clinging on to my last vice! I know that I need to give up the morning pick me up, but I am just not sure how to do it. Suggestions?

Sorry to hear about your struggle. Do not give up hope! I previously drank 2 giant liters (the largest available bottle-size of soda (Coke & then Diet Coke) every single day for DECADES!!! I was t-o-t-a-l-l-y addicted to it; I could "feel" the "sugar hit" to my brain after I drank soda, but now I'm on the "Scared-Sh*tless Diet" & dropped ALL SODA & SUGARS "Cold Turkey" because I now have a fatty liver that could progress to end-stage liver cirrhosis. I am living proof that you can kill yourself with all the sugars (natural & artificial) in sodas & processed food. Why? Because I NEVER drank an ounce of alcohol my entire life! Never smoked, never did drugs, & only had ONE intimate partner my entire life! All the blood tests have proven I don't have anything! No Hepatitis A, B, C, no TB, no Celiac, no HIV, no auto-immune diseases, no nothing!!! I am living proof that sugar (and specifically soda) is more toxic than drinking gasoline!! You can slowly let go of all sodas by stepping it down slowly, day by day or week by week so your body doesn't go into a type of "withdrawal" from all the sugar in sodas. Even the artificial sugars are toxic & I've had bad reactions to just about all of them so don't think the "No Sugar Added" on the label is healthy. It's not! I am the "Canary in the Cave" here to warn you & help you save your health. If I can do it.... You can do this! You can let go of the Dr. Pepper; just use a slow "step-down" process by decreasing it daily or weekly. I've also looked into the Healthy Keto (meaning add healthy fats & decrease artificial/processed carbs (if your doctor says it's ok) - healthy fats = avocados, extra-virgin olive oil, nuts/seeds, olives, healthy nut butters, etc. You can do this!!! (And I previously thought to myself: "There's no way I'm giving up soda!" But the fear of death & disease created such a fear that I used fear to detoxify my body...). Good luck!!!

Thanks for your encouragement. It is so hard. I am putting in more and more ice which means less DP and I am hoping by the time that 8-1-19 hits I will be done with sodas and sugar all together.

Stay the course sugar is a liver toxin fructose actually. Try increasing unsaturated fat if your system can handle it for the energy you need6

How about a temporary switch to diet Dr. Pepper?

Or, I use a 24 + hour water fast to break my bad habits.

Or, keep drinking it and stop trying to give it up.

Prayer helps too.

One day at a time works. Don't tell yourself it is forever, just for today.

1st Step of recovery for many people is admitting powerlessness.

What do you do when you go for blood work?

Get up and take a long walk. Replace one habit for another.

Know you are not alone. We all have our demons.

Try sugar free, if it’s available. Slowly cut back. Start with 1 can and the next week 3/4 can and on and on. I cut out bread, sweets, salt. But protein, I want Steak at least 2 times a month. Don’t give up. You can do this!
