Fatty liver and amoxicillin
It may be a good idea to talk with your doc about it. Here is a bit of research and amoxicillin is referenced as a potentially liver toxic drug. Your pharmacist may be able to look up some information for you as well. A lot of people have taken it but some have adverse reaction.
Yes, amoxicillin is a drug of choice for most doctors. I'm allergic to it. Always tell your doctor your concerns about the drugs they want to prescribe for you. I'm sure you could probably take zithromycin (Z-pack) instead. Ask for it for any respiratory infections, it's much better than amoxicillin and kinder on your system - unless you are allergic to it.
Hi,
Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase (GGT) is important parameter which needs to be monitored when taking more doses of Antibiotics. If it is well within range then you need not worry much. But always make sure you have LFT monitored regularly and you explicitly mention it and your condition to any doctor you visit so that they can factor in your condition before prescribing any medication.
Doctors tend to deal with symptoms of one thing and ignore all the rest , rarely looking at the whole picture. I had this for years, kept being given antibiotics and steroids and then hey presto the result is fatty liver. What I do now is take milk thistle and some other bits and pieces, eat a lot less and eat far better, and avoid such medicines as much as I can. Ive lost nearly 3 stone in two years. Rather than worry about if this or that might hurt I do what I can to prevent other things and make the liver better anyway. The doctor cannot do that for you. I never drink or smoke and my diet is so much better that it cannot fail. It just annoys me that I have to go to so much effort to put right their mistakes.
