4 weeks of constipation

Hi guys, I'm really struggling to keep it together.

My daughter (7 yrs) has been constipated for nearly 4 weeks. Her last bowel movement on the toilet was BEFORE May 16th.

She has been constipated before and Laxido has worked and has been on a daily dose. She has been heavily soiling her bedtime pull up pants for 3 weeks. We are having to wake her up and shower her 3 times a night. Her tummy has been distended for 4 weeks now.

Been to see the GP 4 times.

First time they told me to keep upping the laxido dose to the maximum which we did, she was being sick on the 12 sachets and not eating as they were making her feel full.

Second time they also prescribed Senna.

Third time they felt her large tummy, said they couldn't feel any stool and she was full of air and said to reduce the laxido down to 4 sachets and referred us to the continence nurses.

Forth time a different GP said he could feel stool and to up it to 8 sachets.

She has lost weight - I can now see her spine and ribs. I also have private medical insurance and even seeing a private paediatrician is another 4 week wait.

She feels well in herself, her stomach is VERY loud (you can hear it from a different room), she is leaking through the day but she manages this herself by going to the toilet and wiping. This can be every 20 mins. She's terrified of going to school and causing major anxiety for her (school have been amazing though) and she's so tired from having broken sleep.

All I seen to be doing is feeding her sachets that are not working.

Some one please help.

It sounds like you need to disimpact her, work upto the maximum dose for their age until you reach watery stools with no lumps consistently for a few days before you start reducing the doses down extremely slowly ie one dose every few days until you reach a suitable maintenance dose to remain on

Well, that's what he's tried. Obvious thoughts - (a) get a referral to a new paediatric gastroenterologist, (b) as of now, frequent/periodic enemas may help
