my 16 month old has been taking oral laxatives for nearly a year. He was first prescribed cosomcol peadiatric at 6 months then he was given movicol and now laxido which he has been on for nearly 4 months does this seem normal to you? im getting concerned with how long he has been on these and im almost certain that he is dependent on them now

My son's been on Laxido for just over 9 months and it looks like he'll be on it for a lot longer. I don't know your son's situation but from reading the posts here and reading elsewhere it isn't unusual to take laxative medication for a long period of time.

I was told that we have my son stable, comfoortably passing a soft pop everyday then he we need a maintenance dose for s further 6 months.

I've also been assured that the medication doesn't make his bowel lazy, it actually makes it work properly!!

Having said all of that I worry constantly and desperately wish this wasn't happening to him!

Do you know why you've needed to change the type of laxitive? Why not check with the GP (if you haven't already) that all is well and ask about dependance? Hang in there, I know for lots of children and parents, it's a long haul! x

Hi it can take up to 6-8 years for them to be off meds and go toilet normal. We were told that from her peadrictians.
