Hi, I am feeling pretty good on prostap and hrt and my surgeon is off sick at the mo so I can't have excision surgery yet. I am hoping they will give me more injections even though the recommended number is 6. Has anyone else had more than 6, thanks.

Has anyone been given prostap for longer than 6 months?
Hi, the first time I had zoladex I stayed on it for six months as recommended by my consultant (she didnt give me HRT that time for some reason) however the second time she said as long as I was having HRT and felt ok I could stay on it as long as I wanted. I stayed on it for just over two years and came off it by my own choice. Even then my doctor said if I decided I wanted to go back on it I could anytime. Hope this help. Good luck, take care x
That's good to know thanks. I am dreading going to the hosp at the end of Jan, seeing a registrar because my consultant is off sick, and being told 6 months is all they can give me.If the op is postponed I don't really see what alternative there is as I can't walk without the injections!. Hope you are feeling well x
Hi
I am currently on prostap and I am having 12 months initially (1 x 1 month injection and 4 x 3 month injections) and have been told I can extend it for longer if I want - so far its only been 4 weeks though so will see how it goes! I was told that as long as I have hrt after 6 months I can have it for as long as I want. x
Hi Eggcustard
I had 8 months worth of prostap. After the first 4 injections I felt so well and pain-free from endo that the consultant agreed a hysterectomy would help me. He then added me to his in-patient waiting list and I had four more injections whilst waiting for a surgery date. I guess it was slightly diferent for me as I knew the end was in sight for having the injections it was just a case of when.
Sadly 2 years post-hysterectomy I have just had a lap where more endo was excised as well as remnants of ovarian tissue removed despite me purposefully not taking any form of HRT. My consultant has said that if any pain and discomfort remains a few weeks post-op then he is happy for me to have prostap again as I felt so well the first time around.
Many consultants do say six months is the maximum time to spend on these injections but when it comes down to finding a treatment that works for an individual this rule can be waived especially if you are not suffering many side-effects.
Good luck and hope you wont have to wait too much longer for your surgery.
Caroline, x
