Hi there. I am 37 & have recently been diagnosed with endo. My consultant gave me the Prostap injection 9 weeks ago to see if stopping my periods would get rid of the painful periods & also my off the scale PMT. He put me on Livial HRT and i am also taking citalopram anti depressants as I have off & on for years.

The injection has now stopped my periods but I'm finding that I'm still very weepy, however, the PMT symptoms have got much better with only a few odd days rather than full weeks with no let up.

Today has been like a bolt out of the blue, bad tummy pains, terribly low & weepy, not budged off the settee which isn't ideal being a mother of 2 boys.

I spoke to my GP who advised me to call hospital as sometimes the Prostap can wear off early and it may be an idea to have another injection sooner than Dec 5th as scheduled.

Has anyone else had Prostap but still had pain, especially when period would've been due? Are the mood swings normal? I know that I have been out into menopause & these things sound normal for that but I really hoped I would have had more good days than bad. I feel so mixed up with it all I really don't know if I can carry on with it. Consultant said that if it works then he will recommend a hysterectomy next year.

I would love to hear from any ladies that have had this treatment as I really feel like someways I'm going crazy & worry I'll never feel "normal" again!!

Any advice or comments would be gratefully received :)

Hi Naomi, Sorry to hear how you are feeling. I have had Prostap a few times and can categoricaly say that it made me feel very low and weepy. I really think its to be expected unfortunately. I found these injections are tough going especially the hot flushes so give yourself a pat on the back because going through all these is just so underestimated.

My pain always persisted while on the Prostap and decapeptyl injections, however at a much reduced intensity. It did take a while also for the full positive effect to kick in.

I really hope that things might improve - fingers crossed :-).

Hugs xx

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. Do you mind if I asked you why you had the injections in the first place? I've had them to see how I am with the poss of having hysterectomy. I honestly don't know if going through all this is worth it, I'd rather have periods & endo pain! I think I've had 3 good weeks out of the last 9. Maybe I was hoping it was going to be a miracle cure?

How many injections did you have? I've been told I can only have 2 so that will take me to Feb & then the op will be discussed.

I honestly never expected it to be this tough & it's reassuring to know I'm not alone (which is how I feel most of the time!)

I really appreciate your time, thank you xx :) :)

Hi Naomi, No problem, I'm only glad to help if I can. I was intially prescribed Prostap in 2008 after I was diagnosed with endo. My pain never went after the lap so it was suggested as treatment. I was initally very apprehensive at the thought of this but the pain wore me down so I took a 3 month course. I was 24 years old at the time. My experience of the injection is mixed, with one thing being replaced my another. Since then I have had another 3 month course of Prostap and a 6 month course of decapeptyl which is the same thing. My fatigue is one of the worst things at the moment as the injections are now out of my system and I am back to my periods.

Dont ever worry cos there are so many of us girls in the same boat. Feel free to message me if you have any other questions.

xx

HI there i'm sorry to hear your going through such a hard time. I'm 38 and had hysterectomy four years ago for endo. It has now grown back and unfortunately like many women i'm back to square one and on injections again. From what i'm hearing women seem to have very different reactions to the injections some people say they have felt great on them .I have mixed feelings because my pain is much less but i'm aching from head to toe and crying all the time so on a personal level have decided 3 months is enough for me ! I have no idea what the next step will be but feel my body and my mind needs a rest from all the hormones.I know this isn't very helpful but everyone is different so my advice would be hang in there a bit longer to see if it can help you.But for me it hasn't really helped.xxxxxxxxx
