I am sorry you have problems with your bowels, but there are other foods that have fibers to make your bowels move again. Mushrooms is one of them and most green vegetables are good too. You can replace diary products (milk products I mean) with perhaps eggs and light meats (like fish and chicken meat). Drinking a lot of water and other fluids do help as well. I have often constipation, so I searched the internet myself for some answers. Perhaps it would be an idea to have a browse yourself? If you can't find anything, perhaps the GP can give you some advice or he/she can refer you to a specialist? If pain permits it, going for a walk a few times a week seems to help a lot too. I hope this helps?
Hi wendy , thanks for your reply , I have excess acid as oppose to bowel problems , and have Been given omeprazole to take by my doctor ,but I wondered whether the change in my diet had contributed to the excess acid problems ,thankfully my bowels are ok , thanks for you reply. Helen
I couldn't tell you if the change of diet gives you excess acid. It is usually from a healthy diet to a bad diet (lots of fats and sweets) one should get more acid in the stomic. I do apologise for misreading your message, it doesn't help it was 5:30 in the morning when I replied!
I am not sure how long you have been taking Ameprazole, but I would imagine it should work after a few days to a week?
I don't have your acid problems, however, I gave up wheat and dairy and it was a shock to the system so I understand! For the first month or so I reacted quite badly with terrible diarrhea on a daily basis and after 4 or 5 weeks I decided to give up as I was so sick of the side effects.
But, that was a bit of an ulrika moment for me, as I had a meal that had both wheat and dairy in it, and no diarrhea. Brilliant. I still had lots of my special wheat and dairy free products left in the cupboard/fridge so I thought, "ive got to give it one more try, even if it is just to finish off all this food I have paid a fortune for!" so I return to the WF/DF diet. And, believe it or not.... no more diarrhea!?! It was almost as though my body was craving wheat and dairy, and it just needed one 'hit' and that would kick started my system (or something as equally scientific!)
Now, I stick to a 95% no wheat no dairy diet. The 5% that I do eat seems to stable eveything out so that I am symptom free.
So, you can give yourself a little bit of a break every now and again. It's certainly not going to kill you... and by introducing just tiny little bits of wheat and dairy might help you like it has helped me. Whatever you do, I would definitely recommend sticking with the diet. I believe that it helps me enormously and I am a massive advocate of it.
Hi Fletch very interesting what you have said because It did cross my mind that maybe my body was craving the old ways. So to speak I have deviated a couple of times and had no adverse reactions at all, so I will certainly be prepared to do this every now and again , I have had blood tests today , and see the doc on Weds rose if that sheds any light on the matter , thanks for your help Helen
Hi Helen have you asked your Dr to be tested for coeliac disease (blood test)? many coeliacs have bowel problems and painful periods and are fobbed off with tales of IBS only to discover they have endo & coeliac. Also be careful to take vitamin & mineral supplements as unless you're a coeliac or intolerant to lactose cutting out key food groups can cause problems. Stock up on B12, Vitamin D, iron & magnesium & calcium. Also worth your GP checking your full blood count once a year if you are on this diet.
I wonder if you would consider seeing a nutritional therapist as this would help you with your digestive symptoms. The symptoms of low stomach acid are very similar to too much stomach acid so the Omeprazole you are taking may just be causing more digestive issues. There is a very simple test you can do with the help of a nutritionist to check whether you have the right amount of stomach acid. The acid in your stomach is there for a very good reason and if you block the production of it too much, you may be prone to catching stomach bugs and you will not absorb your food properly (or any supplements that you might be taking. Do make sure the Nutritional Therpist is registered with the British Association of Nutritional Therapists. It would be money well spent. Hope this helps
Just a hint for getting over the hump of the diahorrea. I went to a gastroenterologist some years before the endo was diagnosed (which only happened recently). I had a battalion of tests but of course no suggestion of endo. However the solution he came up with worked really well. As least one sachet of Fybogel a day. Seems the opposite of what you would need, but it worked. And when I changed to pysillum powder (not husks), it was even more effective and cleansing. Of course there was all the get exercise and drink more water and eat more fruit and veg advice, but the Fybogel paid instant dividends and stopped the dodgy tum.
I have found it really interesting reading these entries and can identify so much! Is there a direct link between endo and being wheat and dairy intolerant? I definitely think so. I became wd/df over 3 months ago and like fletch I stick to it 95%. I feel the best I have felt in four years, lost all that bloating and water retention (markedly so) and guess what I have discovered I have energy. It has meant I do a run once a week and go to two Zumba classes. This time last year I was a couch potato, felt lethargic and suffered low mood which isn't me. Similar to other endo sisters my body's reaction to coming off w/d was the runs for a couple of weeks and I just put up wih it and drank loads of water. Then i sought the greatest help which was PROBIOTIC ACIDOPHILUS tablets from holland and Barrett which I took for three months and have now stopped as my tummy now knows I'll be kinder to it. It really calmed my tummy inferno. I also left an unhelpful relationship which caused me stress which is a trigger with this disease. It has really taught me to question and challenge the choices in my life. Good luck with wd/df it makes a massive difference. I love rice milk in my cuppa now!!
Hi Helen! I too am on the 95% wf/df diet. It has helped a lot. I also suffer from acid reflux. When I took the omeprazole the doctor prescribed I experienced bloating, diarrhea and constipation. I stuck through it until the pack was finished. It helped a lot. I tried both taking the prescribed medication while being on and off the 95% wf/df diet and I could honestly say the acid reflux has been much more manageable while on the diet since omeprazole only worked a couple of months before the symptoms returned. I still can't have too much acidic drinks or food but all in all I feel great. I've been on this diet for three months now so it took my body time to adjust. Good luck!
I tried the Carol Vordeman detox about 7 years ago (no wheat diary, meat fish eggs etc), and I felt the best I have in years. Inflammation way down and fibrmyalgia loads better. Is a bit radical, and couldn't do it now whilst Breastfeeding little one, but think I might when she weans. On that subject, I do remember very loose bowels and headaches while I got used to it, and also because I ate so much more fruit, veg and nuts. I think there's a def link between diet and treating endo, as I have been cutting dairy and wheat out for years on and off when things got bad, without realising I had the condition!
Hi Ladies many thanks for all your excellent advice, it has all proved really helpful I am going to try some of your suggestions ,many thanks again Helen
