Prolonged heavy menstrual bleeding

Hey I have both of these medications to use together and told I can only use them for a short period of time.
I have had Novasure endometrial ablation to help with heavy bleeding, I’m away to get another one soon. It has given me relief for a while x
No. This is a short to medium term fix.
Other options are gnhr analogue injections. Which I have used on 3 separate occasions with great results for heavy and prolonged periods. They temporarily switch off your ovaries and the bleeding slows down and stops. Given your age, I assume you’re waiting for a laparoscopy with removal of the cyst?
There other option is a Mirena coil and I have used this method for 16 years with a light period requiring just a panty liner and lasted for 3 days!! There might be an option to have one inserted during your surgery. So you can choose to give it a go. If you haven’t tried them before. It’s unlikely to be offered while you have the cyst as I imagine it could be painful and you want to avoid this option.
Depending on your case, you could use these medications until you get your surgery? Or the Endo specialist can prescribe this gnhr analogue injections for you. If you’re not due an appointment for ages, you can call the secretary or speak to your Endo nurse, if you have one. My injection was monthly at my GP surgery with the nurse.
In my 18 years of having Endo, there’s an argument to suggest it is better to have excision surgery (The Dr cuts out the Endo) as opposed to ablation (it’s burnt off using a laser). The ablation is likely to cause adhesions. Others may disagree and have had a good experience.
But this is only my perspective and my experience. Others may disagree with me and so you will need to do your own research and make a decision.
So, there are possible options but I don’t know the details of your case and so these may not be an option for you. But you can ask your Endo Specialist.
Hope that helps. It’s exhausting having heavy and prolonged bleeding. It used to make me feel so so ill and exhausted.
You’re not alone ok. We are here just a message away x
Hugs from me if you like and want them 🫂
Thank you for this community; I now feel that I am not alone. Since my teenage years, I had experienced heavy periods. At first, I assumed it was simply part of being a woman, a minor inconvenience to endure. My friends would often joke about their monthly “visitors”, and I felt the need to join in, laughing off my own discomfort. Painful cramps seemed normal; after all, didn’t everyone have them? I stocked up on heat pads and painkillers, convincing myself that managing the symptoms was just part of life. It felt like a rite of passage, one that I believed every woman quietly dealt with.
As the years went by, the pain worsened. What began as occasional discomfort turned into something much harder to ignore. The cramps became sharper, often leaving me curled up for hours, unable to concentrate on work or make social plans. That was when I decided to consult Dr Law Wei Seng, a gynaecologist at WS Law Women’s Clinic and Laparoscopic Surgery Centre, a women’s clinic near my area. That was when I was finally diagnosed with endometriosis.
In many ways, knowing I have endometriosis has been a relief. At last, my pain feels validated; it’s not “just period cramps”. It means I can now access treatments specifically aimed at this condition, with the hope of easing my symptoms and supporting my fertility if I choose to have children. I have a better understanding of what’s happening in my body and can connect with others who truly understand. It also helped rule out other, more frightening possibilities, and now I feel more empowered to take charge of my health.
