Rectopexy surgery and constipation

I would really welcome some advice regarding ongoing issues surrounding constipation 8 days following a robotic ventral mesh Rectopexy. I’m continuing with Lactulose once daily but I cannot open my bowels without digitalising. I feel so disheartened as this was the main reason for me going ahead with the operation so that I wouldn’t need to do this anymore.

It’s like my body cannot switch off from having to do this as I’ve been doing this for over 5 years. The surgeon stated that I should have no issues with opening my bowels after surgery and I can’t find any information about anyone having similar issues after the same procedure.
