I recently had an appointment with my gynae consultant and she said she would put me on the laparoscopy waiting list! That's great and it's what I wanted. I realise the wait will probably be a little while though.
I was wondering if it's the type of thing where I would receive a letter to confirm this, and also how to approach telling my supervisors at uni. How did you go about telling your line managers/supervisors? I'm in the first year of a 3.5 year course, so I don't even know if I will have the lap during this time. My consultant was reluctant to give me an estimated wait time because another patient complained when the time she told them was different to the actual time they waited, so fair enough really. My supervisors are nice and I'm not afraid of their reaction, I just think it would be awkward!
Thank you🩷

Hi, Tell your line manager you are currently on a waiting list for a medical appointment and when that appointment comes through you will need some time off for that appointment.
You should receive a letter confirming your appointment, time and date so if they need evidence you can use this. Maybe put this in an email as a heads up for future reference.
Ultimately you have waited some time for this appointment and your health is the most important thing here. They don't need to know the in's and out of your medical condition especially if you are not comfortable sharing this with them.
I personally tell my line manager everything because then he has a better understanding of how important these appointments are to us. If you are not comfortable doing this then all they need to know is that it is a medical appointment.
Hi, not the answer your looking for but i was put on the list in Nov 2023 and only just had one. You should get a report letter from your gyno appointment about what was discussed. I got a two week warning for my lap.
Hi,I'm a university lecturer and know that at our uni we have so much support available for students. We have both services and policies that help students with medical leave or allowances while they study. Even though you might be waiting a little while for the lap, it could be useful to let them know sooner rather than later, I'm making assumptions now but if you have suspected or confirmed endo this is likely to be impacting you now so there could be support available already. I'd recommend telling them as much as you're comfortable sharing.
Best of luck with your course and with the laparoscopy!
