Having a lap while studying

Hi everyone 😊

I'm waiting for a laparoscopy and it's looking like it's going to land in the middle of my semester at university. I'm a humanities student so I don't have many contact hours and probably wouldn't miss too much. But I'm still worried that the recovery (with the fatigue etc) will interrupt my studies as I have to do a lot of reading and I'm scared I'll get behind. It's my final year so I don't want to do badly! Has anyone else had a lap while studying? How did you find it?

Thanks xxx

Hey ! I had my lap mid way through my first semester last year ! I was worried as didn’t know what to expect with the recovery time etc. I had 2 weeks off uni & actually found I got on top of my work whilst I was off because I did my reading etc from bed in my pjs ! I spoke to my uni beforehand and they were really accommodating and offered me personal tutorials when I got back in case I didn’t understand anything . Most of our lectures are put online , I’m not sure if that’s the same for you?

I would just advise you to speak to your uni and take the time you need to rest!

Feel free to message me if you want a chat xx

Hi, I think it depends on the severity and how much you have removed. I had diathermy (tissue lasered off) and I was back to work within 3 days. The fatigue and the pain wasn't great but I felt okay with returning to work. However, I'm having another lap in 6 weeks which will be slightly more intense as having the tissue removed and I've booked a week off.

Good luck with it all xx

Hey! I had my last lap during the final semester of my masters. I was also working at the same time, so it was pretty stressful.

As Lucy explained its best to discuss it with the uni. They sent someone to take minutes and record the lectures I missed and also helped me with getting any extensions as necessary. I did also have to get a letter from my doctor to confirm the condition etc.

I managed to pass everything first time and if you have that support in place it gives you good time to recover, after all a good recovery is important.

Good luck with it all xx

I had a laparoscopy for Fallopian tube removal for sterilization. I asked for a note at the hospital and they signed me off for 2 weeks. I work 2 jobs, one in an office and in a shop at the weekend. To be honest I could have gone back to my desk job after a week as I am sat down most of the day but didn't feel ready to go back to shop work after a week as I was still quite sore, bruised and tired. I've returned to both my jobs after 2 weeks off and I am still quite tired but getting there.

I had my first lap while I was training to be a teacher, I scheduled my surgery for the Christmas break, once I told my tutor she told me to bring it forward and she was so helpful at getting things sorted for me. Have you told your uni? They might be able to accommodate x
