Laparoscopy advice

Hey guys, hope everyone is managing to get through each day with as little pain as possible ♥️✨ I have been placed on waiting list for diagnostic laparoscopy and been told about six months maybe longer.

I'm just glad I have been placed on it full stop tbh 🙏

Just wondering how everyone got on with diagnostic lap as previously laparoscopic surgery for appendix went absolutely awful and was in for 9 days due to peritonitis and was on loads of antibiotics etc, just very nervous about it all.

Did anyone have complications?

Or have to stay overnight etc?

Just trying to gauge how everyone else has gotten on and be as prepared as possible this time

Thanks guys ✨♥️

Hi. Iv had 3 laps. 1st I was in for 2 days after due to oxygen dropping and needing help but the 2nd and 3rd I was home same day. I would pack your dressing gown and slippers, comfy pj's or stretchy clothes, pillow for stomach on the ride home, lip balm, throat sweets self care products and something to do whilst on hospital like a reading book or colouring book. Hope your not waiting too long

Thanks for your reply! Sorry to hear that! Is that a common thing to happen with the oxygen? I'm not normally great with general anaesthetic anyway so very nervous ✨❤️ thanks for the advice xxx

I dont think so I think it's just a rare side effect I was 21 tho on my first one I had a cystectomy and which was very large removed and little endo I was fine and didn't need oxygen on 2nd and 3rd lap, only slight low blood pressure wen standing on second and 3rd I had no problem and home same days on 2nd and 3rd, as I'd had previous problems I took my time in moving even though the 3rd was more extensive I'd had more endo removed and adhesiolysis it was the easiest but longest recovery if you get me x

Hi,I have had 3 laparoscopies. I didn't need to stay in for the first 2, however I did for the 3rd due to urine retention. I was in a lot of pain and discomfort for a few days, but that is to be expected. They sent me home and said to have paracetamol, but I phoned my GP the next day and they prescribed me tramadol, that helped me tremendously.

Sorry to hear that ❤️🙏 thanks for your reply! Is urine retention a normal thing to happen after surgery? So nervous after having previous complications 🥺❤️

Urine retention isn't normal, but it's only temporary. X

hi, I’ve had two, one to diagnose my endo and the second for treatment. Both times I had trouble peeing after. My consultation said it happens in about 10% of patients, though it’s rare that it’s a permanent thing. I was discharged the day of my op with a catheter which was removed 2 days after with no lasting impact. After both ops I’ve need anti sickness and this time it’s taken along time for the swelling to go down (possibly because of the amount of tissue removed)., I couldn’t get in my jeans for about 4 weeks. I don’t remember this being such an issue after my diagnostic lap. Neither time did I feel the extent of the swelling was really mentioned, I think I expected some just not as much or for as long as it was. I had some shoulder pain after the op, but again I was told that can happen, as it’s from the gas they fill you with. Hope that’s helpful, and that you get some answers from you op.

Thanks so much for your reply! That really helps! Just good to know the possibilities following the op, I like to be prepared for the worst, I know it's quite pessimistic but I work better that way 😴😬 .. I hope you are now recovering well after your operations! ✨❤️ Yeah I was aware the gas pains can be bad,I always have peppermint tea and buscopan at hand anyway 🙏🏻 take care ❤️✨
