hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone has had any success with Serapeptase, NAC, or Nattokinase (or others) for helping to slow down the progression of their endometriosis, relieve symptoms or shrink endometrioma.

If you have been successful, what brand would you recommend / not recommend and any tips?

Thanks so much!

Supplements are an interesting bunch - not all work well across the board with endo with every woman , even with great double blind study results. I have a therapists background dealing with both acupuncture and nutritional care so it's my jam and it's rich with possibilities. My first take is you need to have an overview of how you think your endo sits in the pantheon of endo issues and with your own genetic family tendencies to draw reasonable tentative choices of where to start . For me it meant I headed down the road of knowing it was likely to do with depression/ heart problems/ OCD / rheumatoid arthritis and that had a common root in responding well with higher intake of Omega 3 required . That is key to gut healing before entering into the world of pre and probiotics( if you don't heal the permeability of the gut first any probiotics and food stuff can cause weird reactions and allergy symptoms. For me that fitted and after 3 months of at dose good quality EPA/ DHA Omega 3 ( here in UK Biocare is my go to favourite) I found the nerve pain and inflammation had died right back.

I found the NAC unhelpful it seemed to overload my liver quite quickly and I know that can be the case for some. It has great results for others though . I've used Serrapetase to great effect for adhesions but it shouldn't be used by those with implants, hip or joint replacement or heart pacemakers etc as it's too effective at reducing adhesions that keep them in place 😂.

For me I found Reservatorol significantly reduced lesions and cysts - the dose for that is quite low to be super effective so if the NAC isn't a goer for you it's worth the explore combined with Quercitin with Bromelian .

Lastly for a very long time I used Levagen to reduce the high inflammatory markers and as pain relief . It's interesting stuff so check out the info.

Great guidance for many supplements is to be had in Katie Edmonds book Heal Endo. She's great at helping put together a sensible protocol that is tethered to your story and needs but rooted in the science of double blind studies. In terms of supplements,I always try and go for brands that also supply to practitioners like Higher Nature, Cytoplan or Biocare. They are likely to be at dose, pure and not filled with rubbish / fillers like many on the shelves. They may be a touch more expensive but I find I get the treatment I need . Often they work out cheaper too ultimately as they are stronger and you don't need say 12 versus one or two to get the appropriate dose. As a caveat unless it's a negative reaction to a product it can take up to 3 months for supplements or dietary changes to be noticed so I found patience is needed x

THANK YOU for SUCH a comprehensive answer that is tremendously helpful to me and I am sure so many others suffering. How long do you recommend taking each supplement for and at what dose age?

If you go into Katie Edmonds book she has recommendations around dosage and strength. The reservatorol there is info on line in relation to dose - here more is not better ! I use Higher Nature for the Quercitin and Bromelian or Biocare and take two as that works for me but some may find one fine. Expect to take for a year and review. I take short breaks from supplements once in a while but find longer than two months off the omega that the nerve pains begin to wind back up a bit. After using the Omega for 3 months I added prebiotics and probiotics - again high quality. If your gut has been severely inflamed I would likely try longer before introducing... but you know your body best. I only ever introduce one supplement at a time and I started with the Omega because you need to know if you tolerate whatever you're adding one by one or not... Always check dosages with the manufacturer recommendations and double blind studies. They are usually pretty consistent.

The dosing - This is what I do and generally am a sensitive being to small levels of anything. Know thy self and if in doubt ask a local nutritionist to you for guidance . Remember this is a whole body issue and doesn't just vanish from your being once you treat for a bit. There are systemic vulnerabilities that you will likely always need to support 🧡
