I was wondering if anyone has experienced severe shooting pains when gas is passing through your bowels and also when passing stools. The pain disappears as soon as the gas has been released or the stool has been released, but those few moments before are excruciatingly painful.
If you’ve experienced this and spoken to your gynae about this, is it normal? What is the cause?

Hey, I do experience this and no it's definitely not normal. In my case we don't know the cause. I think trapped wind is increasing this issue for me. Did your gynaecologist have any idea about it? Have you tried anything to help with easing these symptoms? Are you constipated?
I had this before I had excision surgery. In my case, it was definitely a symptom of my endometriosis. I had deep infiltrating endometriosis including on the bowel. My surgeon believed it was the reason too. That said, I am quite sure other medical conditions can cause the same issues as well
I experience this pain in and around rectum with passing stool or gas but it also wouldn’t fully ease after, often lasted hours or didn’t fully ease and have a constant painful pressure feeling or pain in my sacrum/down my leg, or feeling I still needed to open my bowel. It got so bad it was often difficult to know when I needed to poop! It all just felt so uncomfortable especially around ovulation and my period but as it worsened it consumed the entire cycle. This was particularly before excision of severe rectovaginal endo. I still can get sharp pain now when I open my bowel felt somewhere deep on my left side but that does pass more quickly - I suspect that may be because of scar tissue as most of my pelvic endo was on my left side and I also had ectopic pregnancy and tube removed on left side where your large bowel passes through. I hope you get some answers.
Hi. I had this and it was due to endometriosis on my bowel. Everytime i opened my bowels it was like someone one stabbing me with a knife. I had an operation to remove all the endometriosis but I had to have an ileostomy for nearly 6 months after my operation as the endometriosis had damaged part of my bowel.
This was my experience when I had rectovaginal endometriosis I also had it attached to my bowel and bladder. I hope you get the support you need for the consultant to get this sorted x
Hi there, I get exactly the same symptoms as Endofitall, waiting to be referred to a gastroenterologist as Gynae believes it could be on my bowels , and said he can’t do anymore for me. Just had this for 4-5 days straight ( ovulation is worse plus time of my period)always coincides with my cycle it’s horrible I had Endo removed from ovaries but I have all symptoms of bowel Endo. I hope you can get some answers. All the best xx
I also experience similar. Sometimes I find it hard to know if I need to pass wind or go to the toilet as it often feels the same. I also have difficulty actually passing wind and find if I have trapped wind it puts a lot of pressure on my bladder so I need to wee a lot. I have a rectovaginal nodule which I’m waiting to discuss with the endo specialist. I have lots of bowel symptoms so I’m under general surgery and the endo specialist team at the moment. X
I definitely get this too!! I’ve just recently had my second excision surgery where it was all over my bowel and everywhere. I’ll be interested to see if it stops now I’ve had most of it removed
hi everyone thanks so much for sharing your experiences, Really sorry to hear about all your experiences it feels like a very common issue amongst us all!
I have no answers yet but what I can say is that next time I speak to my gynae I will bring it up and if there is any answers I will make sure to let you all know. It does sound like it’s probably endo on the bowel though.
Wishing everyone a pain free week and recovery before the festive season.
