Recently diagnosed with endo, and trying to find any information I can about if there are any additional risks associated with either C-section or vaginal birth due to endo? Interested to hear from anyone who has or hasn’t had laparoscopic surgery prior to becoming pregnant.
we would like to start TTC soon, and I’m having a real dilemma about whether or not to have laprascopic surgery before. And also really anxious about trying to conceive, any potential pregnancy complications and complications during delivery if we were to get pregnant. Especially as I am already high risk due to damage to cervix from surgery for CIN3 and CGIN.
Any experiences or info you are willing to share are greatly appreciated. It really feels like this community are the real experts on this condition!
thanks all 🩷

Hi Emily, I had a laparoscopy to diagnose Endo and also to remove as much of it as possible because I was struggling to get pregnant. I was diagnosed with moderate Endo and they were quite sure that was preventing the pregnancy. They couldn’t remove all of it as they were worried about damaging my ovaries. However they did open them up and remove Endo from inside them! Which now thinking about it was rather scary and I’m glad I didn’t know before hand. However, I was extremely lucky as I fell pregnant the first month we tried. The pregnancy was successful. I had a vaginal birth and had no complications at all. In fact I was very lucky to be able to go on and have another 2 children in the same way with no issues.
I really hope your TTC journey goes smoothly. For me I am so glad I had the surgery (key hole) as that enabled me to have my family. I didn’t know about this group before hand and to be honest didn’t know much about Endo due to lack of info so I really did have to put my faith in the surgeon.
Thanks so much for sharing Lucy, and congratulations on your pregnancy’s 🩷
If you don’t mind me asking, prior to the surgery was your cycle very regular? Something I’m worried about is that the surgery might disrupt my cycle which is currently very regular (which I’m hoping is a good sign for fertility) or that they might accidentally damage my reproductive organs. Iv had not very good experiences with surgery in the the past and if I’m honest find it very hard to put my trust in surgeons (especially as I know someone who has the lap at our local hospital and it was badly bodged)
May I also ask how long you left it after surgery to start trying?
So my cycles were very regular before surgery. I was due my period the day after surgery, which actually did happen but a bit heavier than normal probably due to the surgery. My next period came a bit sooner than normal and I had my usual Endo pains which made me feel sad as I thought the surgery had therefore not helped. My next period was back to normal in length the next time which was great. I was told to leave a full cycle to let my body rest but after that could start TTC. Luckily no Endo was found in the uterus. The following month we tried and caught on, which resulted in my son Teddy 🥰
Yes that will cause more worry if you know someone that didn’t have successful surgery. Do you know if there’s a surgeon who specialises in Endo at your local hospital? It may be worth asking to see them. We have to put so much faith in one person. Thinking back now I really didn’t ask enough questions or know enough info. But this was 10 years ago now and I didn’t even know anyone who had Endo. I felt very alone and so low because I didn’t think I could have children. Now I have found this amazing group and also have made a friend who has Endo too. Good luck with your Journey. Feel free to ask anymore questions. Always happy to help and support where I can xx
hi, I’ve just had the operation and haven’t tried to conceive yet but that was one of the reasons for me having the surgery. I’m hopeful that it will help us to conceive.
I read you questions to the lady below and my cycle was regular before and has come back and is regular since the op in August (had 2 periods since). My surgeon said to me to wait 3 months before trying to conceive so that I am healed inside, so that is what we are doing and we are hopeful that it will go well.
