My first Laparoscopy is tomorrow i’m so scared

i’m having my diagnostic/ excision lap in the morning and i am so scared, just TERRIFIED that they won’t find it. my consultant said he specialises in endo and he thinks he found a chocolate cyst on my mri but im still pissing myself that i’ll wake up to find out it was nothing. i have ptsd as well and im so so so nervous for the vaginal part, ill be unconscious of course but jesus christ im so scared. i still live with my parents and they are incredibly ignorant, invalidating and unsupportive people and they’ll be looking after me afterwards and they have had the date wrong for months they didn’t even know it was tomorrow let alone the other horrible things they say and do regarding my chronically ill journey. i’m just so scared i don’t know what to expect, obviously i know what’s going to happen but i don’t know how im going to feel or how nurses will be or the doctors and surgeons, im sure they’ll all be lovely, i just feel like a scared little girl who just wants a hug and im 22 haha. i feel very alone in this, even though my supportive best friend will be with me, i just feel like no one around me understands and i dont know what life will be like after, especially if he doesn’t find any endometriosis. anyways sorry for the rant its just a scary time and this forum always makes me feel braver than i am with all of the support there is on here 💓

Hi

Hardly a rant 🙂 fully justified in being terrified, not only because of actual op but the fact it’s the only way to find out if the disease is there. I was 51 at first op and petrified, it’s natural. On the actual day it was much easier, the staff were great, especially the theatre staff, they know what they are doing and you have a good surgeon by the sounds of it. My main problem after an op is the lingering gas pain, peppermint helps. I’m glad your friend will be with you and sorry you’re parents don’t understand what’s involved.

You aren’t alone, although some here will be waiting for first op many of us have got through several, mine not all for Endo.

You won’t feel like writing tomorrow it’ll be very tiring, but let us know how you get on 🙂

You’ve got this 🙂 virtual hug

thank you so much your message helped a lot, my surgery went well and my surgeon said he DID find endometriosis but was a little odd when i asked what stage he said well i found some but it was old and we’ll talk about it at my follow up in two months? so it was very off and unsettling i’m not sure what to think i feel a bit left in the dark, but hopefully i get a letter soon explaining it more as i was still groggy and loopy when he came in to see me, ill probably do a post on here soon when i’ve healed a little explaining what happened to see if anyone has any advice or ideas, thanks so much for your lovely message again, it helped calm me down before and remember that the nurses and doctors know what they’re doing and will look after me 💓

That great op went well and you’ve got some answers. I think we all feel like that after the op, it’s the anaesthetic and other drugs. It’ll take a few days or so. Make sure you get plenty of rest, no lifting.

If you want more info you can request the notes from the hospital. It’s not through the consultant, there will be a page on their website where you can request records. I always do, I like to see everything.

Staging is more an American thing, I haven’t had any Gynae use that with me.

How are you feeling apart from groggy?

ah that’s reassuring to hear! yeah i asked my nurse before i left if he’d sent a letter with the summary of what he found and they said he would it would go to my gp and i would get a copy too so im waiting for that asap hopefully! not too bad, the gas pain is very unpleasant but i’m having mint tea and coping with little walks every half an hour or so, they didn’t send me home with any pain meds and the ones i have at home aren’t doing anything, i’ve had 100 worse periods than this pain it’s just still painful. im resting while i have my friend with me today to help get me tea and snacks but she’s leaving soon and my parents won’t be helping much so hopefully i start feeling better. i’m weeing in bits still which is annoying but at least it’s coming out!! haha 💓

Hey, Even if they don't find it atleast then you know it's not endo and they can look for other explanations. It sounds very much like it is endo so hopefully surgery will give you some answers l. Sorry to hear family are not understanding that must be really difficult but this isn't in your head as these forums show lots of women have these symptoms. You are not alone. Good luck with surgery xx
