Mirena coil

I was diagnosed with endometriosis back in September 2023 after suffering chronic pelvic pain for 3 years , along with severe bloating and abdominal pains. I was given 6 month trail on the prostap injections which helped massively, now I’ve been advised to go on the coil or I will be discharged. All my pains have returned 😞, has anyone else experienced this and what was the outcome for you

I personally did not get on with the coil, I bled for 3 weeks at a time and was in constant pain. There are other hormonal options though such as the pill if you have not been given the option to try them I would maybe ask.

Did you have surgery? If not that might be an option as well :)

Aww that’s a shame 😞. I’ve tired all the hormonal options they have considered but they didn’t work, only one was prostap but couldn’t give me more than 6 months. I had a laparoscopy in September

I had the coil it was nothing but a hot mess. Three months of bleeding before my body expelled it dramatically and forcefully earning me 24hrs in hospital.

Hormones give me migraine. I used transemic acid and mefanamic acid continually.

I don't understand why they can't continue the prostrab treatment for more than 6 months because the alternative is removing your ovaries that puts you in menopause with the exact outcome.... It's silly, they could manage risk by offering you a dexa scan (bones) and add back hrt at a low dose.

Sorry to hear that. They couldn’t carry on with the prostap because it would shut down my ovaries which they don’t want to do 🙄. I’ve been given more naproxen for now but unsure what the outcome will be when I see my consultant in 6 months 😭

I understand that, I had zoladex for the same reason for 6 months and then a hysterectomy with ovary removed.. Same affect no hormones and premature menopause with all associated health risk.

hi

I am on my second mirena coil now and it has been my absolute saviour. I have stage 4 endo and have had surgery twice, one more extensive. Suffered for years, completely debilitating pain. I haven’t had a period for almost 7 years now and no pain. The only pain I have experienced is from ovarian cysts. I know it doesn’t work for everyone but it’s been like night and day for me. Xx
