Mirena coil after stopping the mini pill due to severe mood swings

Hi, while waiting for my gynae referral for possible endometriosis I was put on the mini pill. I tried Lovima and Cerazette but had very severe mood swings, where I started to fear I'd need medication of some sort. It was horrible.

I was on Norgeston for about 2 days and then I completely stopped taking the mini pill after discussing with GP. I felt like my usual self within a couple of days, instead of a weepy or angry mess.

At my first gynae appointment, the consultant said he wanted to do a hysteroscopy and also put in a Mirena coil to try and stop or reduce my periods. I told him about my mini pill horrors, he said it's a small dose of hormones and the coil could be removed if I struggle.

Has anyone here who struggled with the mini pill had a Mirena put in, and what were your experiences please? Especially if you had trouble with mood swings on the mini pill.

Thanks in advance for any opinions anyone has, I'm really unsure whether to go for Mirena or not

Hi Helen,I had terrible experiences with the mini pill. My side effects were different, but I also refused to take it anymore. My gynae wanted me on the coil very badly, but I just flatly refused, as the coil is still a hormonal therapy that gave me all the issues in the first place. Only after I refused the coil, she referred me for the laparoscopy. She actually tried to use the laparoscopy as way to force me into the coil ("if it is not the coil, you will need a surgery!"). I was very pleased to hear that, as I wanted confirmation of my diagnosis for a long time at that point.

I have also heard some horror stories here about removing the coil - doctors aren't that happy to remove them, because "the coil will improve, you just have to wait for it to settle in". I was terrified that it won't be that easy to remove it as it was to stop taking the pills.
