Laparoscopy endo excision overnight stay?

Hi all.

I’ve finally got a date for my excision surgery and have been told I’ll be staying in as an inpatient afterwards for a few nights.

I’ve never had this before, always been in and out on the same day..

Is there a certain reason why they keep some cases in? Is there something different that I should be preparing myself for?

Really depends on what they’re doing. I had widespread stage 3 excised robotically in February and stayed overnight for one night. But they said if I felt up to it, I could have gone home same day

Hi, I'm not sure what the criteria is for staying in over night but I suppose it just depends what they are doing/ how complex or tricky the op is and recovery expectation. If your worried then can you contact your gynae to ask questions? Might reassure you a little. I had my lap in March and ended up staying a night due to some complications, they agreed to send me home the following day as I was struggling emotionally/mentally in hospital but I think ideally they would of liked me to stay another night x

Hiya! For my first surgery, I was told last minute I would be staying overnight because I was going to have a drain in and I was last on the list. I did have a 10cm blood cyst, so quite a big one! Drain was removed the next day and I went home. My second op, I had no drain and went home the same day. I have no idea how they decide these things!! Hope your op goes well!! x

hey… I wouldn’t be too concerned or fret too much about how long they have said you may be staying in. They will most probably keep you the one night, and if all is well they will send you home the following day. They tend to give you the worst case scenario, so that anything else is a bonus. All the best with your surgery! Take care xx

On my first surgery they kept me overnight, second surgery they had me down as a day patient however the surgeon had an emergency earlier on and I didn't get take to theatre until late in the day so they said it made sense to keep me overnight in the end.
