I will be staying in due to having other medical conditions & also because I have quite a drive from my house to the hospital.
Anyone else stayed in for 1 night or longer?
Hope you are all having a pain free weekend

When I had mine I reacted badly to the anaesthetic and painkillers they gave me (opiates are not my friends) so they also had to give me an anti-emetic, because that took so long to take effect I was told I may have to stay overnight, which sent me into a meltdown. I just wanted to be at home and no one had even suggested I'd be staying overnight which was what set me off. It's better to expect it and I think you should take any little home comforts that make your stay easier and so you feel more relaxed. Hope it goes well for you when you go in. 😊
Thank you x
Hey, how are you?
Do you have a date for your operation?
I’ve not got a date but been told I’d also have to stay one night. I’m supposed to be having a laparoscopy to look for endo and I think a laparotomy, well an incision to remove a lump from my abdominal wall. So I’m guessing it just means protocol says they need to monitor you for slightly longer. If I’m honest I’m fine with staying one night.. I’ve got 3 kids so in hospital I’m more likely to get a good 12 hours rest/recovery time 😂.
Are you worried about having to stay in?
Hope it all goes well for you xx
Hey I am good thanks I don’t have a date yet, wish it would hurry blooming up. Not worried at all about staying in as I have been in hospital many times. I thought it was quite unusual from reading on here that people stayed in, looks like a lot get home the same day. I have to say though you don’t get much rest in hospital since they prod you every 5 minutes and throughout the night, I will get plenty of rest at home though. How’s things with you? x
I stayed in for one night after a lap excision. I think for simpler procedures it varies depending on whether it’s the morning or afternoon operating list, excision etc or just diagnostic?
Hey,
I stayed in overnight as my pain from the second op was still bad (first op I didn't need to stay in). I talked it through with the nurse during the day and we decided it would be best to stay in so they could monitor me plus I would be in the best place should the pain hit me hard in the middle of the night.
I'm glad I did; I was on codeine and paracetamol after the op but I needed oral morphine during the night as the pain was kind of crampy and stabbing.
If you're in overnight you may not sleep much, as you'll be monitored each hour, but you'll be more rested if that makes sense xx
I stayed in for 4 nights - had the lap done in Germany and I think there they generally tend to keep you a bit longer. Also the surgery took longer than expected because they found deeply infiltrating endo. Anyways my experience in the hospital was very good - pain management is much easier in the hospital than at home. Just make sure you bring some very comfy clothes because your belly will be bloated and sore - night gowns are best I think or pijamas with a super loose waistband. I would also recommend bringing headphones and some relaxing music to listen to. All the best!
