Excision surgery tips

hi all. Hope you’re well. 💛

I’m having excision surgery in 2 weeks, could you kindly share any recovery tips?

I’m also having Endometrioma and fibroids removed. If you had an Endometrioma removed, did it impact your amh and by how much?

Thanks so much xx

HiThe most important part of my recovery was sleep. I gave myself plenty of sleep opportunity, didn't drink any caffeine (no black tea or coffee) and changed diet - removed all inflammatory foods. While there was a steep learning curve I found it very effective! I started going for walks (that's a very big word, as it took me triple the usual time to do a loop around the neighborhood) on day 3. It was pretty painful, especially in the shoulders (fricking post op air bubbles!), but the walks made them go away.

- Invest in a v-pillow to help you sleep. I had to sleep on my back and much more upright than usual as laying down was more uncomfortable for me. It also helped to prop a pillow underneath my knees.

- Fill up a large bottle of juice/water each day so you can drink easily without getting up/asking someone

-Peppermint tea and windeze tablets to help with the gas.

- Rest as much as you need to, but also get up and move small amounts each day. Build it up when your comfort levels allow.

- Take the laxatives that they prescribe

- Have someone to help you for the first few days for cooking meals, or make sure you have easy things to eat with minimal prep. I thought I would be back doing everything myself much quicker than I was but the first 5 days I found difficult to stand for long periods of time without feeling weak and fatigued. I live alone so stayed with my parents.

-Dry shampoo - I found standing to wash my hair very tiring the first time so this gave me some extra time

- Get some loose, baggy t-shirts / trousers. I only wore lose trousers that I could comfortably roll down underneath my incisions (PJ’s for the first week) and either a PJ top or loose t-shirt. I didn’t like the feel of anything else on my stomach.

- Stock up on a variety of activities to keep you occupied

I’m 2 and a half weeks post surgery. Each day you’ll get stronger and gradually feel better so you can start walking longer distances etc. I had an Endometrioma removed but I didn’t know I had it until after surgery so I’m not sure about AMH levels sorry.

I hope all goes well - be patient with yourself and take the time you need. 🙂 x

Hi, really great tips already mentioned but just to add on my thoughts:

- take an overnight bag into hospital just in case you need to stay.

- have a pillow or blanket in the car for the journey home as you'll want a barrier between your body and the seat belt so it doesn't dig in.

- listen to your body, everyone is different in terms of recovery, it took me 2 weeks before I started doing the basics at home and didn't go back to work until 6 weeks then returned with phased return.

I did have an endometrioma removed but no idea re. AMH levels sorry! Xx
