So, I've had my first depo provera shot last week, and today, I think I've had 3 panic attacks, all seemingly out of the blue. As far as I can remember, I haven't had one before. I do have very mild anxiety but nothing I take medication for. Are panic attacks associated with depo? Have any of you experienced that if you've been on depo provera?I think they're panic attacks: racing heart, breathing fast, shaking and almost bursting into tears.

Depo and panic attacks?
Hi there,I don't want to leave you without a comment as these are very scary feeling for you. To start with find a phone number for a mental health service to provide in the moment support. This could help with the panic. I'm in Scotland and we have Breathing Space for example.
I've been on Depo Provera shot since 2009 and it doesn't give me any of the same symptoms as yourself. It has always made me feel better and better and improved my health.
With all that said this synthetic hormone is messing with your hypothalamus, your adrenal glands and your pituitary which is a feedback system for stress response. Although in theory it's mainly expected to cause tiredness and depression causing inactivity, and weight gain, there's no reason it won't cause your stress response to go the other way if that makes sense?
There's evidence that people under stress from trauma who live in constant fight or flight have high heart rates but low cortisol levels as the body ignores the hormone after a while so the levels drop. Pfizer that makes Depo Provera have more than one set of papers online covering its studies and uses. If you do go reading them, please don't scare yourself. It's also used for cancer patients. Some of the animals tested got tumors etc.
Hi 🙂 I had the depo shot years ago for contraception. I presume it's the same one they use to help endo symptoms, but I had severe panic attacks on it and was deeply depressed to the point of being suicidal. I don't have any advice for you sadly, but just my personal experience which seems to resonate with yours. 🫂
