Unable to have Depo Provera- lockdown

Hi all, great to join this forum. I was diagnosed with moderate to severe endometriosis a few years ago but it was largely controlled by the depo Provera injection. I only realised I had endo when I came off depo for a while because there was a shortage of supplies. I experienced horrendous pain and bleeding and investigations found endo. Now the Gp practice said I need to come off depo injections due to lockdown and the nurse suggested once daily progesterone pill but when I tried this before I didn’t help with the symptoms. Nurse has agreed to look into if I can have a higher dose and getting back to me. Just wondering about others experiences of this? Has anyone tried a drug that worked as well as depo and/or are others moving to different treatments in light of lock down? Thanks x

Hi, I'm on the depo injection too, I'm ment to be going to doctors on Thursday to have my 3rd, do far they've not cancelled it and I dont really understand why they have cancelled yours, I think maybe you should tell them that this is the only thing that helps you and really push for it, I'm finding its wearing off after the 2nd month as the pains and constant spotting (sometimes heavier). I'll let you know if mine goes ahead if you want? Hope you get yours xx

Thank you for your reply. Just spoke to the nurse again and explained how much of a bad time o had when I came off the depo last time. I asked her about Sayana press which is a self administered Depo injection but she said there is a national shortage so all they can offer is POP (progesterone pill). She said I could double the dose of the pill but there isn’t much evidence it helps with bleeding. I’m not sure whether to try a family planning clinic if some places are offering the depo. I would like to know if your goes ahead thanks, I hope it does xx

Hi, sorry your not having much luck, I just got a phone call from my doctors to ask if I'm healthy and if my family is so that I can go ahead and attend the doctors. If I was you and I would try the family planning clinic as I think u should be able to have what works for u, I know we are all going through a strange time but I dont see why we should suffer any more, hope u get some gd news sn, if u need to talk ur more then welcome to message me x

Thanks so much, that’s really kind. I tried a private clinic but they don’t offer depo or the self administered version. It’s really good that yours is continuing. I have just picked up the prescription for POP but feeling anxious about it. Might try a family planning clinic, just thinking about balancing the risks at the moment!

Sorry to hear your struggling. They shouldn’t be stopping it, I started zoladax last week and my GP are still going to provide me with the monthly injections.

I’ve tried & failed coil, cerazette, final choice now in zoladax, I get bad migraines so can’t have combined pill.

I’m praying this zoladax helps so far though feel rough! But gotta hold out.

X

Hi, thanks for your reply. It sounds like you’ve had a rough time finding a treatment that works. I read that zoladex is good, I hope it helps you. That’s great that your injections will still be continuing during this x

Have you tried a contraception clinic love? that Dosent sound nice going through that because your body will have to get used to a new set of synthetic hormones be best if you could get your injection x

Thanks for your reply. I have rang around a few clinics (nhs and private) today and no luck! No one will offer face to face appointments unfortunately. It’s good that some of you are still getting your treatments. I realise there are bigger issues that people are dealing with at the moment. Let’s hope the social distancing relaxes soon x

So sorry about that but I understand why they have done it fortunately for me I don’t use any type of contraception for my endo so don’t pick up prescriptions or have injections.the issue is you could suffer from break through bleeding once you start the pill as your body will be starting again to get used to the synthetic hormones whereas your body was already used to the hormones in the injection as they are different hormones you see not the same.if it didn’t work before I can’t see it working again I had the progesterone pill too and it made my symptoms worse x

Thank you for your reply. I am considering maybe just waiting and not taking anything rather than going straight on the pill as I think depo takes a long time to leave the body. Do you mind if I ask how you manage your endo if not with hormone treatment? Thanks x

If you look at my previous post on vitamins etc that’s how I manage it and diet I’m pain free most days now and can now even do things I couldn’t like mop the kitchen floor though gently

Hi, I just thought I would update to say that I have managed to get the Sayana press which is a self administered injection, supposed to be very similar to depo provera. Just thought I would mention it in case any other ladies have been told they can’t have the depo provera whilst we are on lockdown. Your pharmacist can order it. It’s such a relief for me! Hoping it works as well as depo provera. Thanks for everyone’s lovely comments and support x
