Hi everyone, I'm finally getting my mirena coil fitted on Monday! I'm quite nervous & was looking to see if anyone had some positive feedback about it if possible?
Mostly worried about the insertion.
Any help needed x

My friend had it and it's the best thing she has ever done, her periods were horrendous and they are now nearly zero to nothing,go for it xxx
Hi, I have had 2 of these in the past. It's uncomfortable getting it inserted but the end results far out weigh the discomfort. They are likely to give you some local anesthetic before they insert.
The coil had really helped me over the years and stopped my periods completely (until recently).
I've just had to have the last one removed with my hysterectomy but that was nothing to do with the coil itself or anything.
Hi, I had it for 10 yrs, really helped as no bleeding & pain lessened. I struggled having it inserted so my Dr gave me a numbing gel 1st & tbh diazepam to relax me as I have developed examination/procedure phobia.
Good luck!
I had mine fitted back in April. I found the local anaesthetic was worse than the insertion, but gynae needed to use it to make insertion easier. The discomfort was short-lived though. For 2 months afterwards I was spotting every day, that finally stopped a couple of days ago
I recommend you take whatever painkillers you take (they advised that in my appointment letter), but also make sure you've had something to eat before you set off for the appointment.
I didn't bother, as my appointment was 9am and I don't eat breakfast, and I felt a bit lightheaded for a few minutes after. The nurses made me stay there till nearly lunchtime as my blood pressure dropped and they didn't like it, so made me sit in the recovery room eating biscuits and cake, and drinking water and tea until they were happy, even though I felt fine by then.
It's soon over, and it has definitely been worth it for me. Good luck xx
Hi
I was told to take pain killers they also put in some gel to help the pain the staff are always nice and help you relax you will need pain relief for a few days just like period pain but 6 months later no periods at all I still have pain which is common but it's great having no periods,I hope it goes well on Monday.

My gp has recommended the coil as I can't take the pill! But I Am really frightened about having one fitted she told me to write to consultant and ask if they will sedate me has anyone had this 😱😱😱
Yes I was given diazepam the night before, morning of & after the procedure as I struggle to even go there for this if not! I would recommend getting a lift there & back whether drugged or not & taking a day off for sure (good to plan for a Friday if possible so some days to recover) I did have very heavy bleeding after but that's normal & settles.
For me the long term benefits outweighed the short term pain
Good luck!😃
It gives you pain at first but then I've not had any problems with it since its worked great for me now!
hi i had mine inserted last friday just after my period had finished.. very uncomfortable but over in a matter of seconds.. crampy feeling afterwards but took painkiller an hour before procedure and later again that eve certainly helped..had some tiny spotting for bout 12 hours then completly stopped... on the monday felt unwell.. tuesday came with back pain.. had 2 leave work early wed as back pain and hip pain was awful along with nausea had 2 go back on painkillers yesterday was a bit light headed and feverish with the slightly lessened back pain... this morning a week in i hope iv turned a corner have not needed a painkiller my back is 99% better sick feeling gone etc... so my advice is have the painkillers on standby. but everyone is different so far im not regretting having it done had nearly 3 years of fortnightly periods lasting a week or more and a week of pms beforehand my life was out of control... oh and added bonus of no preggars lol... good luck.. keep in touch if you want as im a week ahead of you
I had one which was a lifesaver - one of the best things I've ever done: all Endo pains had gone by 3-6 months.
However, can't help much with insertion advice, as mine was fitted under anaesthetic: I was in my 50s, never had children, tiny cervix opening and tilted uterus. I believe it is still* your 'right' to have the insertion in hospital, and under anaesthetic if necessary, but most women don't need that. * something I can see disappearing as the NHS is cut and cut.
However, 6 months ago, my GP whipped it out in her surgery as it was past it 'sell-by' , and it was painless. I'm now post-menopause, and - so far - still good.
Ok got it fitted yesterday- they had to take 3 attempts which wasn't ideal but it's in!! Now I'm paranoid about it coming out! Can this happen?
