I also believe this and also can’t find much about it. I feel terrible that I could have done this to myself, I only had it in 2 months as well, it never felt right with me. I’ve now started IVF just yesterday. If I could only go back in time….
Aww I’m so sorry to hear that I hope IVF goes well for you! I’m only 22 and the effects on my fertility are a big worry for me. I’ve had my copper coil for almost 3 years and I really regret it. When I first got it it wasn’t too bad but in the last two years it’s been awful. If I could go back, I also never would’ve had it. After my lap I believe they’re changing it to mirena but also not 100% sold on that. Sending my love x
I had copper coils since I was 23,now 44. Never had problems with them. I have removed my latest one after had my laproscopy operation for removal of fibroid and 4 months later fitted another one which again needed to removed due to discovering of Endometriosis on my second laproscopy which suppose to be diagnosis (9 months after the fibroid operation) and tge doctors told me to get mirena, bit I don't want a hormonal one and had another copper one fitted this time 5 years one, as I'm probably going to be in my menopause in the next 2 years. I don't think copper coil is related to the endometriosis I beleive my high estrogen is the cause with my dysbiosis but again this is my view.
It’s good to hear other sides of the argument, I guess with no known definite cause for it, it’s hard to say either way. I would like to know the statistics though! I’m glad the copper coil worked for you, they have suggested the mirena to me but I’m not 100% sure yet as I’m not great with hormones but I don’t think I’ll want the copper one either. Contraceptive choices as a woman are not great! Thank you for your response, it’s so interesting reading other people’s experiences x
I had copper coil before I was diagnosed as I was struggling to find any hormonal contraception that worked and didn’t aggravate my migraines. So I believe I had endo already and that was causing all the hormonal issues. The copper coil just made my periods even heavier so had it out after about a year.
Because of the link to heavy bleeding copper coil isn’t recommended for those with endo. But as endo doesn’t always cause heavy bleeding I’d say it’s more for those of us with adenomyosis as that cause heavy bleeding and then if the copper coil does too it’s hard to know what aggravates what.
The mirena coil is hormonal and caused me awful migraines but again that’s most likely as my hormones were all over the place.
Thanks for the info, I do think there’s lack of research in this area. I had no endo symptoms prior to the copper coil so I think research into women who have had it and also have endo, needs to be done.
