Hi has anyone one had the coil put in to help endometriosis?
Unsure whether to have it or not as my surgeon said he could do it at the same time as my laparoscopy.
Thanks

Hi lovely.
I would suggest reading up on the mirena and see what you think.
some women who have had it and it has helped with bleeding other people it hasn't, so it's very hard to tell how you will feel with the Mirena.
My personal experience wasn't good it caused me a lot of side effects that i couldn't stand so i had it removed.
It does seem to be a love it or hate it thing.
I would just gather as much information about it as you can so you make a informed choice.
Hope this helps
Jo xx
Having it put in whilst your under is a good idea, from what I understand its can be uncomfortable otherwise. I didn't get on with it personally, so after a couple of months had it take out (which is totally painless and very quick).
Always worth exploring new options if it could possible help x
Hi, presume you mean the mirena? I'm not sure it will help with endo but it should help with heavy periods and you may be lucky enough that it stops them completely.
It can take a good while to settle down and you may experience spotting for 6 weeks. Some women love it some hate it, it's just down to the individual. My first mirena was a god send, 6 weeks of spotting then a very short/light period for the next 6 years. It was half way through my 2nd coil my endo started.
I had to have my 3rd mirena removed after 8 months as I was really struggling with side effects.
I had my 3 inserted without anaesthetic and whilst it was uncomfortable and a little painful it wasn't so bad.
You have to do what's best for you.

Hiya, I am on my third coil, I think its very much a trial and error thing, everyone reacts differently. My first two were a god send, my symptoms settled down and I stopped having periods all together, my third has been a little different, the hormonal side effects have been bizarre, almost like pregnancy symptoms and I had periods for four months but they have stopped again now.
I will say it is much better to have it put in whilst you are under, I had one put in with no anaesthetic and it was horrible!
Good luck xx
Assuming you are taking about the Mirena (and not the copper coil) - I have had one for about 5.5 months. I had it inserted during my laparoscopy.
I didn't have spotting, I had full on bleeding for weeks after the operation. This then reduced to spotting, and now I have most of the month with no spotting, and when I get my period it is extremely light. For me this is good as I have suffered with heavy bleeding and continual spotting (was bleeding more than not through each month).
The downside for me is that I don't know if the Mirena is controlling the endo and preventing further developing. It is supposed to, but a lot of ladies do seem to continue to have endo problems though they have it. My last (5th period) since my laparoscopy has been bad pain wise so now knowing this I personally wouldn't choose the Mirena based on it helping that. The biggest help in that respect for me has been excision surgery.
Side effects wise, I've started to question if the Mirena is affecting my mood - I cry easily now (didn't used to!), feel depressed and anxious a lot... It could be circumstances as I have a lot of negative things in my life... I don't know, but I have decided to wait until having it a year and see how I feel then. I originally decided to wait 6 months for it to settle before deciding... It seems to have settled so now I just wait to see how the endometriosis is behaving, and what my mental health is like.
Hi, I had it put in last week when I had my lap. So I've had it for nearly two weeks and I'm not sure what to make of it so far. I'm just worried that if I don't get on with it I will have to have it out under general anaesthetic as I can't bear to be examined or have a speculum inside me because of pain but don't know if the Dr will agree to it. I'm just going to see how it settles over the next few months I think. X
I understand how you feel. It is so hard to decide because you read so many negative stories but everyone is different and reacts differently to each type of hormone. I've had my coil since November 2014. It was uncomfortable having it inserted, the Dr said it was harder to get in because I've not had any children yet. The bleeding did take a while to settle down but I didn't mind having to wait because I'd had continuous bleeding on the POP and depo injection. The periods I get now are very light. I've got my lap next week to see if I have endo. I took the pill for many years which possibly masked the symptoms that I've experienced more since coming off it a couple of years ago. For me I felt I had to try the coil because I had literally tried everything else and I had nothing to lose. It's turned out ok and I like not having to think about taking a pill.
