advice please!

Morning all,

I will try and keep this short. I’ve recently turned 40, I have suffered with heavy, painful periods for most of my adult life. I did have IVF 12 years ago and nothing was found (IVF due to being gay and have a distinct lack of sperm in our relationship)

In 2019 I went to the GP but was fobbed off a couple of times so assumed I was just being dramatic.

after much pushing from my partner and sister, I went back to the GP (female this time and very empathetic) and have started investigations.

Fast forward and I was diagnosed with 2 x 2cm sessile polyps which I had removed a month ago. That whole process was barbaric and I am in disbelief that the NHS put women though that. I had to fight for gas and air when having them removed. I have a high pain threshold, but that was something else. My boobs were awfully painful after for 2 weeks and my hormones all over the place. I am being treated for a suspect infection in my cervix so have some very strong antibiotics, which have very kindly given me thrush and diarrhoea. Yay!

I am still in pain, lower back, legs and cramps. I don’t know what is normal any more. My period pain was managed slightly with codeine, useful but not 100% effective.

I have had one period since the polyps were removed, and that post surgery pain has gone, it’s just back to how it was., cramps, leg ache, constant lower back pain. I swear I can feel my right ovary cramping while I’m typing.

I have a few questions really, what happens to hormones after polyps are removed? How long until they settle down? Is it normal? Why is there no literature available about this?

Do I push back to the GP again and ask for a laparoscopic diagnosis looking for Endo?

Is my pain normal?

Thanks in advance.

Hi. No the pain is not normal. I'm in 40s too and not much was found on my ultrasound. Only had a lap to remove a cyst. When inside they found alot and I'm stage 4. I've always a got lower back ache, hips, aching into legs ( like toothache) and griping. Could you push for an MRI first or if you could afford it go private for one. It may show up something to then go back to gp with. Mine showed further DIE, ademenoysis and extensive adhesions.

Thanks for the reply,

I’ve got pain in my ovary now, maybe the hysterscopy irritated it all or something 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don’t know, but I’m more hormonal and more pain than I have been. Mine is a constant dull ache in my lower back and daily cramps in my womb, all radiate down my legs.

Drs tomorrow so hoping I’ll get referred back to gyne again. Will look at going private. I just don’t know what is normal. I was reading that IBS is misdiagnosed and is actually endo - which I’ve had since I started my periods at 12. So bloody long isn’t it!

Hope you are doing better now? How do you manage the pain?

Thanks again

Kate

I'm not as bad as some people. I suffer with my lower back the most. I'm always in some level of discomfort. Ranging mild, nagging to worse when I'm on. I just put up with otherwise I'd be constantly moaning lol
