Hi there,

I have had urgent and frequent urination issues for at least 3/4 years now. I had to go urinate within 20/30 minutes of drinking water and I wasn’t even emptying my bladder properly. It was certainly worse during my period.

I booked an appointment recently and have been prescribed Oxybutynin hydrochloride which eases the bladder muscles. I’ve been on it for 3 weeks now and it has helped.

Good luck xx

I find I pee a couple of times a day but night time….. I’m up every 2-3 hours. Been given meds for this but they don’t seem to work much and it doesn’t matter how much or little I drink.

Hello

I'm sorry to hear of the urinary frequency and the pain. I have experienced frequency similar to that.

How much water are you drinking in total per day?

If it is too little this can cause frequency issues.

Have you heard of bladder training? The bladder is like a muscle that can easily be trained, for example, now it is used to giving you a sensation to pass urine every hour. It can be trained to to hold the right amount of urine say 300- 400ml. That's when it should give you the sensation to pass urine. There are videos on you tube to explain this if you are interested.

It is wise to do a bladder diary for a couple of days. Take a measuring jug and leave it near the toilet. Measure how much you are passing each time you pass urine. The diary should also record how much you drink each hour. This will show you how low the volume is when you are passing urine and how much you drink per hour.

I used the YouTube videos of Michelle Kenway, an Aussie physio. She has a long list of videos about this if you are interested in trying it.

In terms of the pain, are you interested in alternative remedies?

Take care

I second this! I used to wee 20+ times a day, but bladder training has got me down to about 8. It's still worse during my period/if I'm bloated, but it's definitely helped a lot. It's being overseen by urology, so you can get a referral from your GP. Also worth getting checked to rule out anything else.
