I have recently been diagnosed after suffering bleeding problems and cysts on & off for about 20 years. The recent MRI showed that I have a significant nodule on my bowel so if I opt for a hysterectomy then they will haev to do a bowel re-section. I am currently on zoladex which is helping with the pain/bleeding but I don't know if this will be a long term solution. I was wondering if anyone has had a hysterectomy including bowel resection and could tell me how they found it.

I had a full hysterectomy, ovaries removed and a bowel disc resection 4 weeks ago due to having endometriosis and adenomyosis and a whole host of other issues and I can say it’s the best decision I ever made as I am feeling so much better. I was on Zoladex for 4 months which did help me. I also had a significant endo nodule on my bowel that had to be removed. I was told that depending on how much the nodule/endo had penetrated my bowel would determine the type of resection I would need. In my case the nodule/endo had not penetrated to inside the bowel, it was just attached to the outer surface, so they did a disc resection where they take away part of the outer surface of the bowel and stitch it back up, and as of yet I’ve had no problems. I was warned that if it had gone through the bowel wall I would need a segmental bowel resection and would then need a temporary stoma bag but luckily I didn’t need that. I would suggest asking if they can tell you what type of resection you need. That said my consultant couldn’t tell me as he said you can only see so much on a MRI. However, I was happy to go ahead with the surgery as I was desperate to feel well again and I can now say I am already feeling so much better. I wish you all the best with your journey.
