Bowel movements after hysterectomy

So ile be 3 weeks post op from abdominal hysterectomy on Thursday evening... Opening my bowels is still agony weather the stool is soft or not sorry for tmi iv got horrendus pressure at the top of my vagina almost as if something really heavy is pressing on my cervix and it's agonising in my vagina to have a bowel movement. Has anyone had this before? It's getting no better in fact worse. Also has anyone had nerve pain down the thigh on pubic bone and up to belly button after hysterectomy it's so sore even brushing my hand or clothing against my leg or wearing underwear on anything touching my tummy

It doesn’t sound right to me but mine wasn’t as drastic as your open surgery. I really think u need to call the drs tomorrow or even the ward where u had it done. Hope it improves soon. Keep us posted x

in reply toEndoJaz

It's becoming worse, the gyne doc said she could feel a bulge which would explain why I have the feeling of me sat on something and another gp said it sounds like rectole prolapse where the bowel is pushed in against the vagina wall. I physically can not handle the pain it feels like it's coming out my vagina when I go no hard stools at all as I've been taking laxitives xxx

Did they say what they could do about it if it is a prolapse. The last thing u need is further surgery. Sounds horrific x

in reply toEndoJaz

That's what she said if I'm struggling to pass bowel movements and it being so painful the route would be surgery!!! It's as if my bowel is in my vagina, she said clshe could feel my poo pushing against the vagina wall but that wasn't her speciality so I need to go to the gp to get it confirmed. Apparantley it can happen if you have had Baby's then a hysterectomy. But iv come out worse than I went in xxx

in reply toEndoJaz

Also I could understand nerve pain around the scar but it's down my thigh, the whole of the pubic bone too. And right up to my belly button can understand the belly button bit. My tummy was black n blue afterwards think iv got some nerve damage xxx

in reply toEndoJaz

I didn't open my bowels for 12 days because it was that painful in my vagina to go. I dread going to the toilet nearly 3 weeks since my op on thur and I'm only passing wind once or twice a day too I know trapped wind is normal in the days after but not nearly 3 weeks xxx

The psychological side of things doesn’t help. I get pain when going so I get constipated cos I know it’s gonna hurt. It’s a viscous circle. How long did u stay in hospital for? X

in reply toEndoJaz

The thing is it's there ready to come out but it's the pressure of it in my vagina that's why I can't go with the pressure. Well I was meant to be in 3 days, I came out of theatre late at night throbbing in agony as the spinal didn't work went back to my room and I was treat very well by the nurses. Woke at 8am 11 hours after surgery, and the nurse said wele have to help you get out of bed which I was fine with, so a health care assistant comes in tells me to get out of bed on my own leaves me to undress and wash my self and I'm stood there naked could barely walk I was curled over in agony almost fell over the toilet so I was furious really upset I discharged my self 18 hours after surgery and went home with a catheter in!! Xxx

in reply toEndoJaz

How long were u in for did you have urs removed keyhole xxx

in reply toEndoJaz

That was private hosp it is lovely there and don't have to ask for pain meds they bring you them on demand every time your due but that health care assistant really upset me left me stood naked I couldn't even walk let alone stand wash and dress myself and just kept saying come on. Xx

Yes I remember feeling pressured for getting up and nearly passing out. My daughter was in loads helping me to the toilets and stuff but obvs things were different then. I stayed in around 4 days due to constant sickness after due to the anaesthestic. U shouldn’t have been let out until you could pee and poo properly x

in reply toEndoJaz

I couldnt pee so that's why I had the catheter out back in and they just said it can take up to 5 days to open your bowels so they wernt concerned about that. I didn't mind getting up, it was the no help and feeling as though I was gona snap in half lol and just stood there naked struggling with her watching me saying come on. Xx

I thought total hyst was where the ovaries were took xxx

in reply toEndoJaz

How old were you when you had your hyst xxc

They said it was called a total as the cervix and tubes etc were taken. I was 42, have grown up kids so after the failed ablation it was my only option due to the fibroids and endo bleeding so badly. At least that’s stopped but wish this pain would end too. Lap cancelled in March so waiting for a new date x

in reply toEndoJaz

I'm 29 I had fibroid and endo too, my thyroid goes overactive every time after I deliver my baby I ended up being admitted to hospital last time as they were concerned about thyroid crisis but that is life threatening so even if I wanted more it would be to dangerous as my thyroid would go manic again after I deliver and the more delivery's you have the worse it gets. So I think that's also why he agreed to do mine so young xxx

When I was 38 I asked for one but they did the ablation instead for a temp fix. I don’t regret it but wish it would have solved everything as they promised! Oh well on we go trying to stay positive through the pain. Just worried the lap won’t show anything as I previously had an op for a hernia which was so say causing this pain but they couldn’t find it in surgery and I don’t get on with anaesthetic so was so ill for nothing. Get back on to GP as soon as poss xx

in reply toEndoJaz

Is that general anastetic you don't get on with. I felt really sick waking from the anastetic this time which I've never had before. What u using for the pain at the mo. Xxx

EndoJaz in reply to

Just hot water bottles and ibuprofen and paracetamol with amitripyline. I try to control what I eat and have lots of chia seeds for the constipation as they push everything thru. X

Hi, am reading this and wanted to say, you can ask the Anaesthetist to give you something to prevent you from feeling/being sick. I have a phobia and I was terrified about this aspect, but they put something in the cannula with the General Anaesthetic and it was fine 👍

in reply toEndoJaz

Have you not tried anything stronger. Where abouts in UK r u from I'm in sunny Blackpool 😅 xx

Hi,

Yes I did have this pain, mine was all inside my left crease of groin & could feel it sometimes depending on position I was in down to my foot, not saying this is the same as yours & yours is early days but I’ve been left with nerve damage in the area, wearing underwear that is slight elasticated felt like it was cutting into it & just irritated it, so very rarely wear any now, some clothing too, it can take up to a year or two so they told me for this to possibly go away, I found the heat massaging cream from poundshop really helps but you’re uncomfortable enough without having that aswell!.

The pain in bowel movements took a little while too, like u have to hold onto something whilst this is happening & don’t know what to do with yourself, painkillers don’t help with bowel as can bung you up 😂🤦‍♀️, that does ease but try drinking plenty of water & things to help make it as smooth as poss for a while.

X

in reply toGingernut74

It's not the stool that's the issue cos it's soft and I'm still in agony it's the pressure of it it's so hard to describe. The nerve pain is so irritating isn't it I didn't have any nerve pain after my c section but after hyst I have it preety bad xxx

Gingernut74 profile image
Gingernut74 in reply to

Me too, I’ve had 2 c-sect, yours might go but I read it could’ve been done when your legs in the stirrup things, hopefully yours will disappear in time but yes it’s just so irritating & disrupts your sleep more than anything as however you lay it is irritated, you may need a nerve pain killer like pregabolin or Amitrytaline? Which I’m now changing to as mine hasn’t gone it’s been nearly 2 years & still plays up x

in reply toGingernut74

Iv had pregablin before hate the drug and I'm allergic to amytriptline il just press on with it but it's so annoying xxx

in reply toGingernut74

Would my legs have been in stirrups with having it done open surgery through the abdomen xx

Good point, sorry wrongly assumed it was done the same way as mine, although mine was supposed to be done keyhole 🙄, I def felt a pressure down there but things do take time to settle down but I would maybe contact your doctors about it?.

I know what you mean about the pain during bowel movement, no matter what the stool is like. I think because there are so many nerve endings down there. I am sorry to hear about your story, you have had a terrible time of it. I hope things get better for you
