Hysteroscopy : Anybody had this and what to... - Endometriosis UK
Hysteroscopy
I have an appointment for this in April, it's to send a camera into my uterus and check for fibroids and take a sample.
You won't be able to see any endo, which would be around the outside of your uturus and or on other organs. But maybe the first step in your diagnosis journey.
Definitely push for a pelvic MRI.
Good luck.xx
Thankyou that's really helpful and I definitely will try push for the MRI, not giving in now! X
hi I had a hysteroscopy when I was under for my laparoscopy, so I don’t remember it at all but inside bleed afterwards.
You need a laparoscopy to find out if you have endometriosis and a MRI to see if you have adenomyosis.
Sorry you have had to put complaints in, women should be listened to. Good luck with your appointment xx
I think you have this backwards. Endo can be diagnosed with a laparoscopy or sometimes with a pelvic MRI. Adenomyosis and fibroids I think can sometimes be diagnosed with a hysteroscopy?
Hi I’m not sure about a diagnosis of adenomyosis via hysteroscopy but I know from my experience I was diagnosed with adenomyosis after having an MRI and endometriosis after laparoscopy. My lap never showed up endometriosis.
I’m like 99% positive you can’t diagnose endo with a hysteroscopy. An internal ultrasound showed signs and the MRI showed almost certain endo, but they said I still needed a lap for an official diagnosis of endometriosis so I had one. I think that’s changing now because since then I’ve been having my endo monitored with MRIs and I’ve been hearing of diagnoses made without surgery. But I am pretty sure a hysteroscopy can only show conditions that affect the uterine lining or the internal parts of the fallopian tubes. Not a doctor though.
that’s good you are being monitored, did they put you on any medication to help? 😀
I’ve been on a lot of things. Decapeptyl worked ok but I got osteopenia and had to stop. I was fitted with an IUD last November but so far all it’s done is make the pain worse. And because I had to come off the hormones I was taking for PCOS in order to try a combo of progesterone and the IUD my periods are just all over the place now. My last period was 53 days long (though thankfully I only had flow for 12 days and the rest was occasional very light spotting but with hellish cramps, nausea, diarrhoea, etc. and horrible back/hip/thigh/leg pain which is not lovely. 😭 I just want to feel ok so I can stop using my wheelchair and actually walk places again. 😭😭😭
What an awful GP you have, well done for complaining. A hysteroscopy is a look at the inside of your womb to test for polyps etc. It's normallly something you have before undergoing fertility treatment. It is a very painful proceudre so when I had mine they said they were giving me "a mild sedative" but actually gave me a general anaesthetic without warning me they would.
It is absolutely not the right scan for endo you need either an MRI or an trans vaginal ultrasound but you do need it done by someone who knows what they are doing.
See if you can get in touch with the gynae you have been reffered to directly ( e mail their secretary) and explain your symptoms and request a scan , better still if you can go private you can get the scan done in a matter of days. Ask to see a different GP at your practice or change the practice. I'm so sad to hear this every single day women are being fobbed off, gaslighted and frnkly insulted by thier doctors. You need to be your own advocate and not listen to them. Good luck. xxx
According to the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists 1 in 3 women experience severe pain during outpatient hysteroscopy (womb endoscopy), which the NHS routinely does with no anaesthesia and only ibuprofen/paracetamol from home, plus distraction technique aka 'vocal local' from a health care assistant. Some hospitals offer gas and air plus a local anaesthetic into the cervix. You are entitled to have a hysteroscopy under general or regional anaesthetic or IV sedation with analgesia. Please discuss all pain control options before agreeing to outpatient hysteroscopy. Hysteroscopy with biopsy is currently the best test to rule out womb cancer but not to identify endometriosis.
have they offered scans? Hysterescopy will only see inside the uterus. I had mine done under GA it was only when I had MRI it showed I had adenomyosis and fallopian cyst. My GP was equally as rude. Told me I had IBS and all he expected to see on the scans was that “I’m full of poo” 🤬 I’m just out of hospital after having my tubes removed.
To be honest I don't know what there going to do yet but my letter is titled Hysteroscopy and Heavy Menstrual Bleeding Clinic. Ive had 2 ultrasounds, the last being last July and was clear. I got diagnosed with IBS in my early 30's and also fibromyalgia so they cant tell me its that, I know that pain. This flare, of whatever it is is worse than ever and my period Is now 8 days late. Pain always increases around period but its like its been building but no bleed not to mention all the other perimenopause symptoms. I'm confused with it all
