pain frequency

hi all, I had surgery in May 2019, my surgeon did an amazing job and my pain is no where near what it used to be thankfully. However I get cramps, stabbing pains monthly that last a few days at a time (like severe period pains, with no period) I’ve gone back for examinations multiple times and my specialist says that it all looks good and that it could be scar tissue or endo that he cannot see (possibly stomach wall I think from memory) does anyone else get severe pain for a few days and then nothing else for weeks? I know I shouldn’t complain compared to where I used to be but I worry it could get back there. Can anyone offer similar experiences?

Hi - can I ask what your surgery was? Had laprascopic surgery to remove adhesions in 2020, however pain returned and I have just had a total hysterectomy and removal of endometriosis (which they couldn’t find last time). Hopefully this helps, however I know there is still the risk that endometriosis could return, in particular as I have kept me ovaries.

ho thanks for responding, it was laparoscopic excision I think from memory. I know many women have multiple surgeries but it’s just frustrating that he can’t see anything. It almost makes me think I’m imagining it.

I only ask as 2019 doesn’t seem that long ago but endometriosis and/or scarring/adhesions can grow back in that time. Would be worthwhile seeing if your go can refer you to see a gynaecologist again and an MRI to see what is going on may be helpful also. Medical professionals sometimes have a good way of making you feel like it is all in your mind which is why it is good to push for options that can provide evidence to the contrary. Even if they don’t find anything, it doesn’t mean that your pain is not real - sometime the pain is unexplained which must be even harder!! I hope you get some answers 🙏

thank you, I really like my specialist but perhaps I could get a second opinion. Also first word was meant to be hi 🤦🏽‍♀️ In my reply to your first comment

no worries - might be good to get a second opinion but also if the specialist can refer you to a pain management group or phycologist to help you manage the pain.
