Endo/retrograde periods/infertility

I've been trying to get pregnant for two years now, saw my GP who started me on blood tests and scans etc. Scan found a cyst on my ovary, which led to a laprascopy and hystercopy (I think that's right) to remove the cyst (10cm chocolate cyst) and run dye through my tubes etc. Surgeon said the next day he found endometriosis but hasn't said how severe it is. Feeling very unsupported and uninformed as to what happens next regarding getting pregnant. I don't know if anyone that has been through this, no one seems to talk about not getting pregnant only how easy and quickly they fell pregnant. Anyone going though this or have been through this? I just want to know my chances or if I'm setting myself up every month for no reason. I just want some to talk to that gets it!

I have been exactly where you are right now and know how devastating it is.

Sadly for me it never worked out and ivf was less than 3% chance of success. My Endo is incredibly severe.

However I do know quite a few people who were also in my situation and although it did take longer they got pregnant, many of whose got pregnant by surprise a second time not long afterwards. It’s almost as if having a first child helped their bodies in some way, so it’s definitely worth preserving.

Is your gynae going to refer you to fertility specialist? I’d make a follow up appointment with him and go in with a list of questions and also expectations.

Don’t allow them to fob you off or waste your time, that’s what I did for far too long and ruined my chances.

I’m here anytime you want to message etc.

Best wishes xxx

Hi. I have stage 4 which was diagnosed this year at the age of 45. I was on the combined pill most of my life . Came off at 32 to have a baby and fell on after 6 mths. I then went back on the pill for another 3 years and came off again but was never able to conceive again . I'm not sure if it's luck I had my son or whether the endo wasn't as bad then. I guess I'll never know. I never went for fertility treatment as I put my infertility down to age. It's only when I got diagnosed this year the gynea said that was probably the reason. Mine is very severe. I have cysts, ademenoysis, endo in POD, I had it on my bladder and still some on my appendix. Plus I have thick scarring sticking my bowel to uterus. I hope you get some answers either way. Xxx

Hi,

This exact thing happened to me. Spent over a year TTC with no success. Had GP tests and an ultrasound which founds endometrial cysts on both ovaries. Got referred for IVF in March 21 and whilst I waited to referral, had a lap (privately) to discover the extent of endometriosis (stage 3). Got my referral through and fertility appointment in the December and went through the process of IVF this year and am currently 21 weeks pregnant.

I would push for a fertility referral and go from there x

Hi, my partner and I started TTC 3 years ago. Found out in early 2021 I had endo which included ovarian cysts and blocked tubes. Was advised that I wouldn’t get pregnant naturally, IVF would be the best option with surgery to remove my tubes because the fluid blocking them could impact and embryo transfer. Went private in the end as everything was taking so long on the NHS. Had a round of IVF in April this year, froze 2 embryos then had to wait until this month for surgery. 2 days before surgery I found out I was pregnant. It’s very early days, I’m only 5.5 weeks and need an early scan to make sure everything is ok because of the problems with my tubes.

I had given up all hope of getting pregnant naturally, especially after 3 years. But it did happen and can happen for lots of women who have been told they can’t. In your situation I would push to see a fertility specialist and get those conversations started as to what the various options are. Wishing you all the best with everything x
