endometriosis mimics appendicitis

hi ladies

I’m 31 and was diagnosed 4 years ago with endo. Currently on the waiting list for a third operation due to pain and bloating most days. Most of the time the pain is bearable and is controlled with daily Tramadol. I’ve been experiencing severe pain in the last 24 hours and it’s become so bad I’m worrying about appendix. Does anyone else get the severe pain which almost mimics appendicitis? I will be taking a trip to a&e if it doesn’t settle down in the next 24 hours!

xx

yes exactly that, I’m always convinced I will be having my appendix out every time it flares up but it settles after a day or two. I suspect endo on the appendix x

Always worth going to a&e! Back in June I had what I thought was an endo flare up and I ignored it for three days. Finally went to a&e and my appendix had ruptured at that point so was rushed into surgery and ended up in hospital for 5 days so they could deal with the remnants of the infection. Hopefully that's not the case for you but if you are at all worried then worth a visit. Keep an eye out for a rising temperature too.

Hi

Because you may be taking that strong painkiller which will mask - some of the endo

pain- have you had problem with your appendix before- if not- need to stop any strong painkillers.

Before any trip to an A & E- { as they will test your blood/Urine Etc.}

Should that you can not control - feel that you need some help by all means to ease

any anxiety/stress that you are feeling!

Hope you are feeling a little better

Stay Safe/big hug

Sorry to hear you're in pain and unsure what to do. Id like to share my experience in case it is helpful. I have been having endo flares of extreme pain for years but didn't have a diagnosis. Only ever went to a gp once. In May this year I had what felt like same thing, my usual pain flare. But it didn't fully subside and felt tender still. Also it was in the right hand side (but accompanied by pain in vagina etc) Anyway eventually I decided to go to a walk in, in case it was appendicitis, but I didn't really think it would be. It was. I had emergency surgery. In that surgery the surgeon saw ovarian cysts, which I later got scanned (the US scan i had to diagnose appendicitis missed the cysts) and found are endometriomas. My advice to you would be if you're in any doubt and suspect appendicitis, get it checked out. I almost didn't and it could have been disastrous. The appendix was very infected and inflamed. One test you can do is press down on the appendix and it hurts when you release the pressure. The nurse in the walk in centre did that test when I went in. Good luck with it and everything else, it is so horrible to be in pain, and especially when you're not totally sure what's causing it. R xx
