day case lap?

Hi everyone, I hope you are all as well as can be!

I finally have a date for my laparoscopy on the 6th December. I have ended up going private with Mr Baxter in Sheffield, as the wait list for the NHS was over a year and my cysts are at 14cm and 8cm and I could not physically and mentally wait that long!! I will be having a two step approach of having the cysts drained, removing any easily accessible endo and then another op at a later date to remove the cysts and any deeper endo.

The letter has just came through today to confirm the date and mentions the estimated stay is a day case and my admission is 12pm. I am not sure if it’s because I’m going private or they just anticipate I will be fine to leave the same day, but seems very short to me. Has anyone else been discharged the same day? I was expecting at least a night in hospital!

Thanks in advance x

It is quite common for it to be a day case on the NHS, my lap was a day case. I would say go prepared for an overnight though just in case, especially as you are on the afternoon list.

I think (had quite a few so struggle to remember 100%!) every op I have had privately for endo I have come home the same day even if it was very late at night. the cost of private treatment is very high and I would imagine the cost of staying overnight would really bump up the price if you are paying for it yourself. Take an overnight bag just in case. Hope it all goes well. Take care.

hi

I’m also having a private lap

Mine is the 12th of dec also a day case

I can’t even see a gp where I live so I also had to go private with the Bmi in Lincoln

I moved here last year and it’s been a nightmare to gain access to any form of healthcare

Unfortunately the doctor seeing me is an absolute a**hole and is only doing it because I requested. He thinks because I’m post menopause then endometriosis goes away! I’m 52.

I’m an ED nurse working for the nhs and I’ve seen first hand how much it’s declining.

Good luck with your surgery. Hope your doctor is kind caring and professional

Xx

Good luck for your surgery! My first surgery was in the morning and i was discharged by that evening. I have a second surgery soon and they've booked me in for late afternoon and ive been told i will need to stay the night. Both were private, not sure if that changes anything.

thank you, getting a bit nervous now! I suppose they will see how I am but are presuming I will be fine to go home. How long after your admission time were you down for the surgery? I have to get there for 12 and presume they will need to do a few things before actually going down for surgery. Also how many hours after your surgery were you discharged? Good luck for your second one!
