I hear that installation can be painful if you’re not getting a general, so I would make sure to take painkillers. (Don’t be like me and forget to take them before a cystoscopy and suffer.) The good thing is it gives less hormones than a pill and you can’t forget. In all honesty, I barely notice mine.
Zoladex was far more effective than the Mirena for me, but is obviously not a long term solution. It may be that now the Zoladex has calmed things down, the Mirena can keep it there. That’s why I chose to keep mine after the excision lap. I don’t think it’s enough by itself though - so I am taking progesterone on top.
I know not everyone gets on with it but I can honestly say it gave me my life back. It was the best decision I ever made. I can’t comment on the insertion as I’ve had mine inserted and changed during operations so was under at the time. I don’t have children so I understand it can be a bit uncomfortable. I also had zoladex. Once for six months and later for two years along with HRT. It did help but when I stopped the endo returned quite quickly. Just explain you have endo and you are concerned and remember it’s your decision, your body. Good luck with it and I hope it works just as well for you.
I know there’s mixed experiences but I had a coil for 7 years and it was brilliant. Compared to Zoladex/Prostap I had no side effects. I had bowel adhesions and adenemyosis removed last year, it only got really painful again in the last few months. I’d definitely recommend it on my experience. Lots of luck. Hope it works for you
