Mirena coil and Zoladex

Hi wondering if anyone could give me some advice! 3 weeks ago I had a laparoscopy and was diagnosed with grade 3 endo they also inserted a mirena coil during the procedure and then after the procedure I had a zoladex injection 10.8mg which last 3 months. I’m now suffering with really bad period pains and have started light bleeding that’s watery and dark! I am around the usual time I would normally have a period but I was under the impression I would be having periods for three months and was getting a break from endo symptoms! Also another thing I’m not sure of is should I be using a condom for inter course or will the mirena coil work as contraception while on zoladex?

I’m not sure about contraceptive element this is something your Doctor will be able to advice. With regard to coil and Zoladex it’s my understanding from research that at best these may minimise symptoms in some patients but don’t work for everyone and can in-fact make things worse for some.

In short term I would go back to your GP or consultant for advice and better information on what you can expect from this treatment and whether your symptoms are normal for this cause of treatment, I would also be looking for a 2nd opinion on alternative treatment options from a specialist. We are not allowed to make recommendations for consultants on here but a good place to start is BSGE website, which has information on Endometriosis centres and specialist and to do your own research - nancysnookendo.com there is a whole learning library on there.

I found by seeking out good quality research and empowering myself with information I was much more equipped to advocate for myself in the doctors office and find better quality care and treatment.

Good luck 💖

You are fine to use both Mirena and Zoladex - or I did anyway 🙂. As for the watery bloody-ness, it's probably just your body healing from not only an operation, but two new hormonal things interjecting and making things more muddled. I would see your doc if it persists though or if you are in a lot of pain, as maybe the coil has moved or something else. As for the Zoladex, that did make me feel bad and I feel like that contributed to a lot of symptoms for me and outweighed the relief it should have provided me. But that was just my body and my experience. GL with everything. ♥️

When you were using the zoladex and mirena were you protected or did you have to use a different contraception aswell? As I’ve read that the zoladex stops the contraceptive pill from working so wondered if it was the same for the mirena coil! I feel like at the moment I’m worse off that before but I’ve not even been on zoladex a month so maybe need to give it a chance! Thank you 💓

Nope I just used the coil and Zoladex, no contraceptive pill or condoms etc. My endometriosis specialist said I was fine when I specifically asked about it. He said I was to keep it in until the Zoladex was out of my system to start trying for a baby. You could try call the clinic you had the op and ask for advice? I emailed the reception a few times who passed my email on and he got in touch when he could. I will be honest, I had three 10.8mg and I hated jt - it's also really mucked up any sort of period cycle I had plus the symptoms took over for me. But I so hope you have a good experience as I've heard others have!! ♥️♥️
