Hello, I wanted to ask if anyone's periods stopped after having the mirena coil inserted? If so, how long after insertion did the periods stop? I had my coil fitted after a laparoscopy last year where endometriosis tissue was removed. I had the coil for a year and 4 months with periods every month and then suddenly, they stopped. I now haven't had a period for 3 months. I'm trying to figure out if it's likely to be down to the coil, or if something else could be causing my periods to have stopped. Thanks!

Periods stopped with mirena coil
I seem to recall mine stopped quite quickly. I’ve had a coil for some time now but I think it was about 3-4 months.
Mine stopped too. It’s quite common for them to stop with it
Hi! After having the mirena coil fitted, I was told it could take up to 6 months for my periods to completely stop. It took 9 months for mine to stop. However, still had spotting for like a year or more after that, on & off.
I had mine fitted in January and bleeding stopped about 2 months after! My pain hasn’t stopped though and feels excruciating a lot of the time, does anyone have any advice if their pain also stopped with their period or if they still experience it while on mirena after surgery?
Hi Kameron,
My pain never fully went away, but was definitely reduced. Have you had a coil check to make sure it’s still in the correct place?
Hey!
Had a scan at the hospital a few days ago and they confirmed it’s actually too low in my cervix and stuck to the right cavity? The doctor performing the scan didn’t provide a lot of info and just said he’d send it on to my gynaecologist who I’m seeing next week. Pain has gotten a lot worse today and I’m bleeding again, honestly want to cry with it all, feel like it’s constant, just so frustrated at the lack of options with endo 😞
Thanks everyone for the responses. I always thought that if your periods would stop with the coil, it would happen in the first 6 months. I recently had a blood test which revealed I have higher levels of a hormone which is related to PCOS, but annoyingly they won’t officially diagnose with PCOS. So I’m trying to figure out if my periods have stopped because of the coil, or because of potential PCOS. I don’t suppose I will know unless I have the coil removed.
