Hi, I am fairly new to this group and wanted to find out about anyone else’s experiences as I am suffering with bad anxiety. I currently have chronic dizziness caused by 2 episodes of vertigo and a very chronic anal fissure that has been treated surgically 4 times but still not healed. I have lived a life of awful suffering over the past few years so then after severe abdominal pain back in April, I was diagnosed with endometriosis and adenomyosis with a guess at stage 3. I know the bowel is tethered and the back of the rectum from an mri scan and my ovaries are completely stuck along with small cysts and fibroids. I am due to have a laparoscopy in a week and wondered if anyone has any info on their bowel habits afterwards? I am very scared of upsetting the fissure so constipation or bad diarrhoea would do this. I suffer with a lot of diarrhoea but was getting constipated with my period. I started cerazette but had to stop as it gave me awful headaches. I also wonder what would happen if I didn’t use any contraception afterwards as my mood is much better without it. Would the tissue just grow straight back? Any help would be so much appreciated.
Thanks Laura x

Hello. I've had laparoscopy x2 in the past and I only had gas issues (because of the carbon monoxide they put inside your abdomen to get a better view inside) I had no diarrhea or constipation issues whatsoever. Regarding contraceptives after your surgery is a more complex answer. Are you having excision surgery? Or burning it? There is no cure for endometriosis so chances of it growing back or in a different area are very common in my experience. Specially if NOT excision surgery and I would HIGHLY recommend studying excision surgery and locating a endometriosis excision specialist, only about 15 in the entire United States. ( That's a whole other story) If it makes your mood better not taking it (that was me as well) I would definitely talk to your doctor about trying a different one. Best of luck to you!!
Thanks so much for your reply, it helps to hear that you didn’t have any bowel issues afterwards. I had read about the gas affecting people with shoulder pain. I am unsure of the plan to remove the endometriosis, the surgeon has just mentioned treatment to remove plus adhesiolysis and removal of cysts. She also says that she will fit a mirena coil at the same time but I will discuss this beforehand as I assume I will get the same side effects as the mini pill which make my vertigo so much worse. I had hoped that the endometriosis would grow back at the same rate but I suppose the pain will return. I am also having hysteroscopy to take a biopsy. The surgeon I am using has 30 years of experience and her specialist areas include endometriosis and menopause. I have read about the special centres but I just assumed that not everybody goes to them due to the long waiting list. Did you use a specialised centre?
