Hey All,
I have been on this forum for a while as I was trying to figure out what was wrong. I'm 24 but had issues since I was 18, and was always told it's just bad period pain or I need to loose weight.
Was formally diagnosed with PCOS last year after being tested for it 3 times since 2016 and always coming back "borderline" or non-conclusive. I was told though that PCOS shouldn't cause pain. By the end of last year, when my period came, no matter how strong the painkillers were, I was crippled by pain for about 7 days, and bled for 10
I took the leap and had private surgery last month. Honestly, I was a bit upset with how I was treated privately as they cancelled my surgery on the day, after I sat there from 7am -2pm and then the consultant came in and said he ran out of time. But after I made it known I wasn't happy, they fit me in the next day in the morning. I did have to take out a personal loan to pay for this, but it was affecting my work life and my personal life has been tough after getting married and suffering trying to be intimate (my husband has been fantastic and never made me feel bad, but I felt awful)
I've never had surgery before, but this was very easy and smooth, I just fell asleep and woke up in recovery! It was a laparoscopy and they used glue on the wounds. It all healed well, I took it easy, started working from home the week after surgery as I felt I could, and was pretty much up to scratch in 2 weeks, although I was still very tired and my stamina is a lot lower than it was. I did get bad shoulder pain, but lying down flat (making sure by shoulder and hip were horizontal, legs and head don't matter) sorted it right out
I wasn't really nervous for the surgery, I was excited, but I was so nervous for my results in case it had all been in my head or not as bad as I thought
Thankfully, there was endometriosis, but it was removed (it was behind my uterus and in my right hip), I had a cyst on my fallopian tube that had twisted and lost blood supply and I had some fatty tissue growing near my gall bladder that they removed. I also agreed to get a Mirena coil fitted as I had the implant but as I'm over 90kg, the implant might not be as effective apparently
It's been about a month since surgery, and although I didn't realise at first, it's been weird not being in pain in my stomach all month in one way or another. Being intimate feels like it used to and I have no pain, and I just feel better!
I know a lot of people come on here and need support, and I really can relate, but I wanted to say that some of us are lucky and can benefit from the treatment available, even though it costs to get it quickly, but even if only for a few years, as it stands now, I am free of Endo and am feeling a lot better!!
This forum has really helped and I will stay on here, but a lot of the posts are of people who unfortunately don't react well to the treatment given, and it can be scary waiting for results or thinking you are making it all up, but you know your body best, keep pushing for answers (I know how hard it is) and I really hope you can find answers and solutions like I have
