Period returned 7 weeks after giving birth despite breast feeding - is this related to endometriosis?

Hi. I was just wondering if anyone else has had their period return really soon after giving birth? My daughter is 7 weeks old and my first period has started! I am fully breast feeding her - about every 2 hours and so thought I might get a larger break. Some of my friends have reported having a years break from periods! Is it related to hormone levels. I believe mine have always been quite high and is this something to do with having Endometriosis? In fact some mummies I know who haven’t breast fed have still had at least 12 weeks break before periods.

I feel extremely lucky to be a mother especially when I feared it would not happen after ttc for over a year and then being diagnosed with moderate Endo from a laparoscopy. It took a while for the Endo pain to switch of in the pregnancy and I now fear it will return quickly again as my periods are back.

Anyone else experienced this? The doctor is suggesting the mirena coil this time as tried the pill and depo injection but didn’t get on with them. I was on a strict Endo diet when I fell pregnant but I lost so much weight on it and was still in a lot of pain I don’t think that’s the answer on it’s own this time.

I found the same. Was very luck to have four babies but started my period bang on two months each time. The breastfeed definitely kept my endo incheck though - I nursed for 10 years straight through and when I stopped my pain and blood loss escalated rapidly. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Feel free to message directly if you want to chat some more x

Thank you so much for your reply. Four children how wonderful and so great you were able to breast feed them all. It’s interesting that despite your periods returning that the breast feeding still helped to keep the endometriosis at bay. I hope it will be the same for me as I desperately want to enjoy having my daughter rather than battling with pain xx
