How to cope with endo and adeno pain after ivf??

Hi, I've recently gone through ivf and had my embryo transferred successfully. It's still very early stages - I am waiting for my 6 week scan to confirm the pregnancy. I am in constant pain and I am struggling to cope with it. My gp said there is no pain relief that I'm allowed to take other than paracetamol. I am mentally struggling, I don't know how I can cope with this daily pain. Apparently it should ease up if the pregnancy progresses, but so far it's been really awful. Can anyone give me some advice please. x

HiHaving been in the same situation unfortunately I don’t have much advice other than to say hang in there. I also have endo and adeno and had ivf and the pain and sickness at the beginning was so hard. All the extra drugs from ivf contributed to it and I just felt an absolute mess. Really hope all goes well for you xxx

Thank you for taking the time to reply. It's been some of the hardest weeks. Pain makes you feel like you are going crazy. I hope it eases up. My gp said that it should get a little easier as time goes on so I live in hope. Thanks again x x

Hi. Just a quick suggestion of trying foods that are naturally anti inflammatory? I was lucky the ivf didn’t upset me but I had terrible morning sickness ( it was all day, whoever called it morning sickness was having a laugh 😀!!) and eating things like melon did help but it was all worth. Good luck. Xx

Thank you so much for replying. I do tend to eat very well, I avoid alot of the inflammatory foods but I definitely know I haven't been eating properly with being in pain. I've been reaching for handy foods rather than good food. I haven't had any major sickness, it's more pain, so I guess that's a small mercy! Thanks xx

As an acupuncturist I used to be referred clients by our local hospital for pain relief in such circumstances. You might want to discuss this with your medics and they may even refer you to a local practitioner who is suitable.

Hello lovely,I totally understand how you feel.

I also suffer from severe endo and adeno

and have gone through IVF. After a long struggle my last transfer was successful and has just given me my baby boy. I am not going to lie… the pain was terrible for the first 14 weeks or so but after that it subsided and I am now better than I have ever been, so there is hope!! I was also told I could only have paracetamol for pain relief, which didn’t help much…but hang in there!

I highly recommend acupuncture and a change in diet with plenty of anti inflammatory foods. I also did lots of mindfulness and meditation. Please feel free to PM me if you want to chat or have any questions.

Did you go on a natural or medicated cycle? I found natural was much better for my endo and adeno.

Hope you feel better soon xx

Aw thank you so much for replying. Congratulations on your little boy! It's really reassuring to hear your story.

14 weeks sounds like a really long time. I'm only week 4 and it feels like 4 months!! I was taking tramacet so it doesn't help that it was so strong and now I've nothing...

I am definitely going to try to eat better. I usually do eat quite well but with being in extreme pain, I've been grabbing handy foods rather than what I need... I am going to try acupuncture today so I'm living in hope!!! I've never tried meditation much other than when I did yoga years ago but I will try everything. I know the mind makes thinks alot worse, I get really bad anxiety and panic when I'm in pain. So maybe that's something I definitely need to try.

I'm not sure what you mean about natural or medicated cycle, I'm assuming it's about the pill? I have been on it for over 2 years and then they gave me prostap injections right up to my ivf treatment....

Thanks again so much for taking the time to reply, it's been reassuring and so comforting. X

Hello lovely, I am sorry if I worried you by saying that my pain lasted 14 weeks. My adeno and endo were severe though, so hopefully you will be pain-free sooner than that!

What I meant when I asked if you went on a natural or medicated cycle when you did IVF, I meant if you are taking any medication now, such as oestrogen or progesterone, after your transfer? Oestrogen can cause endo flare-ups but the Prostap injections would have helped with the pain:-)

I know how difficult it is coping with pain. Before my transfer, I was on tramadol... and I had to stop it which was really hard as paracetamol does nothing for me in terms of pain relief. I find that regular acupuncture, a good diet and mindfulness really helped me so I hope it helps you too. Hang in there and I wish you a pain-free and healthy pregnancy xx
