Hi

How are you otherwise.

Hate to say it but losing weight doesn’t mean belly will go down. There’s a person online who has great podcasts and website about diets and inflammation for Endo.

Hi,

clinical nutritionist here. Losing weight is simple math; burn more calories you eat. But!! The bloating is our main problem which is caused by certain foods. I wrote about it and low FODmap on my IG: @plate_coach

I’d recommend you to get a calorie count app such as MyFitnessPal just to track your calorie intake. Also starting an elimination phase of trigger foods/high FODmap foods. I wrote about that too. Feel free to ask anything xxx

Sorry to cut in, but as a clinical nutritionist do you think advising people who are worried about their weight and have a chronic health condition that causes bloating, to count calories is a good idea. I'm a mental health professional and I'm always surprised that professionals advise people worried about their weight to count calories, isn't that going to add more psychological strain? I'm not sure that counting calories is ever wise.

Surely having a balanced diet and regular activity are the most important things? I am switching to low fodmap when I am in a flare now as I can definitely see the impacts of gluten during flares, but I was already mostly vegan/non-processed anyway. I have endo belly now too, have gone from size 10-12 to 12 and can't wear clothes with a waist band during flares.

Calorie counting is the beginning of achieving a routing that will lead eventually to a form of intuitive eating. Without counting how much you eat it is impossible to know if you are on the right path or not. I speak from experience as I’ve lost half of my body weight, 60 kilos. You do not have to count the calories 100% accurately, but every calories counts. You cannot do an equation without numbers. I do know the mental health side effects of it. If you reread what I was advising you rethink your reply I hope.

Thank you for your replyI have cut out gluten I’m struggling to cut out dairy but I noticed flare ups mainly with gluten and red meat so I’m definitely sticking with cutting those out……

I find most of my clothes to tight and it’s uncomfortable on me now I’m a size 12 to 14 really but I’m considering buying size 16 just for comfort

Also the calorie needs can only be adjusted after you have some numeric view of your consumption. Without that you might cause more damage then help yourself by shaming yourself about the foods itself you consume. It is incredibly HARD to be a nutritionist these days because of the social media and misinformation out there. Losing weight should be for health purposes but most of us are influenced by social media and beauty standards. If you have a look at Instagram my goal is educating people and talk about my experiences with endometriosis and my other chronic illnesses.

How else do you expect people to lose weight? Have you never watched those programs of overweight people who swear they don’t eat, and they’re followed for a day and it turns out they’re eating in excess of 4K calories a day?

You can only exercise so much! 1) we only have so much spare time a day. 2) over exercising is damaging to health, joints, cardiovascular, so you can’t say “oh, just eat what you like, just make sure you run a marathon a day to burn it off!” That person will be dead in no time!

So we start with calories! No one should need to eat more than the recommended allowance, unless needing to gain weight! And no one should do more than 30 mins of moderate exercise, either!

Xx

I’d advise you to only weight yourself once a week in the morning after emptied your bowels. It is better to rely on your clothing size and how you feel abs what you see in the mirror. Don’t get addicted to numbers. You can do it xxx

Hello

I’m in the same situation as you. Trying to loose weight and also have bad endo belly. I feel better when I wear looser trousers and the pain during the day then isn’t so bad so then I can do a walk or something in the evening. I got some comfy over size t shirts in primark recently and some good trousers for work in tu clothing and Asda clothes for cheap.

I have also cut out gluten and diary and I think it does help over time. I also am vegetarian so my diet is quite strict now but this has helped the weight drop off more recently.

Im focussing on following the anti inflammatory foods and also been reading Micheal mosely books like low blood sugar diet - these have been helpful and are about feeling fuller for longer on good nutrient food and i end up not snacking so much.

This company do a stomach one week flat sachet - I haven’t tried it yet as I was on some other metrication for something but it has good reviews and it was suggested to me by a Gyne pain nurse to take when you have your period
