Has anyone experienced gynaecologist’s misdiagnosing Endo as IBS??

I got diagnosed with Endo in 2019 by laparoscopy but in the last year my symptoms have got worse and the pain is unbearable! Yesterday I had an appointment with a gynaecologist and she pretty much brushed off everything I was saying and said I probably have IBS! She also said “ what do you expect me to do” which I’m fuming about! I find sex extremely painful and she said it’s IBS causing that! It’s the most ridiculous thing! I’m not sure where to go from here…Anyone else had a similar situation?

I’ve had a similar situation hun, I’ve had 2 laparoscopies and after the second one they discharged me from gynaecology and told me to get referred to gastro because they’d done all they can. I’ve been suffering really bad this week with symptoms (sever stomach pain, nauseas, dizziness, back pain that goes down my legs) and I phoned the gp yesterday as my gastro appointment was cancelled this week… she told me to take buscopan until I have the appointment rescheduled with gastro. I told her all the symptoms I’m getting I literally can’t have a relationship because I can’t have sex it kills me and again like you she has put it down to bowel problems. So confused and getting lots of mixed messages :(

Hi Hollyt1993

I feel like we have had the exact same experience! I was diagnosed in 2019 but it didn't help and the symptoms have just got worse and worse. I was referred to an endo specialist who I saw in October but they said it was gastro and they were a specialist!

I don't know where to go from here because I don't know either. But I do know that we should trust our instincts. We are the ones living with this disease and not them. xx

Sorry that you are going through that. I was in the same situation for over 7 years. I was told it's bad period and I was being dramatic and that I need to lose weight. Now they confirmed I have Stage 4 deep infiltrated endometriosis.

I hope that will sort it for you soon!

Hi my lovely . So sorry to hear this.😡 I had the exact same symptoms and told the act same thing . I was even prescribed movical sachets for IBS. I know it can be hard but I got so angry with the lack off empathy . I literally would not take no for an answer after years off suffering . I put my foot down firmly with them . You know your own body and you know the difference . I know you shouldn’t have too but keep fighting ! Sending you all my love xx
