Hi there just started taking 10mg of amitriptyline, I’ve read that it can cause weight gain. Has anyone had this problem when taking this medication. I’m quite worried about this as I can’t exercise atm and I would be quite obsessed with my weight,

Thanks

Please can we remember that medication can stimulate your appetite but weight does not magically appear on your body.

So, calories in and exercise change your weight and the side effects of some meds is a stimulated appetite. But ultimately we choose what we put in our mouths. This is the thing that controls our weight.

10mgs of this meds cannot cause substantial and magical weight to add to your body. It’s what you put in your mouth. Hope that’s clear.

I take 50mgs of amitriptalyne on a night for trigimenial neuropathic pain. This controls pain and gives me a bit more of a pain free life. This is MORE important to me than being afraid of gaining a few pounds.

Please consider these facts and science when making your decision. Not a possible side effect that may be so statistically small.

Hope this helps and being so blunt because I think it’s important!

Apologies if you have a history of disordered eating.

Couldn’t agree more, and the reason it’s sedating is because it contains antihistamines which also increase appetite xx

Hey how are you finding this tablet? I've just started but I am so unbelievable drowsy! I take it at night but am sleeping 9+ hours and still struggling the next day. As far as exercise goes, I've struggled to do any since starting as I've been so sleepy
