Weight gain..

Lately I feel like everyday I'm putting on a stone. I've never been skinny..I'm currently around 12 stone, but have always struggled with my weight. Once I put it on, I can't shed it. The only way I lose it is through being seriously ill or starving myself. I'm quite lucky in the fact that my partner is so understanding, I can't stand to look at myself in the mirror, whereas he says he loves a 'squishy bit to cuddle' - his words not mine. I've always hated how I look - I used to do lots of cardio but found it was making my endo pain worse so I had to stop. I just can't even stand to look at myself getting dressed, or when in the bath I close my eyes because I just can't look. My thighs wobble when I walk, I'm so bloated I look about six months pregnant. It's really knocking my self confidence down and I absolutely hate the way I look. Any one else go through times like this?

Em

Have you looked for help regarding the self image problem? I suffer anorexia nervosa so I know too well how you feel x

I don’t know who to turn to..I almost feel embarrassed to ask for help. I’m sorry you’re suffering x

You speak to your GP an see if they can refer you to the CMHT. I wouldn't feel embarrassed to ask, not seeking help can make it spiral out of control and it's so frustrating. x

I just feel like she’d judge me. My mum constantly tells me that I’ve lost a lot of weight and I just can’t see it. All I see is a disgusting thing. I’m just so frustrated with myself x

I understand :( I do believe though you should speak to your GP about it. I hope you feel better about your self soon though x

I understand how you feel reading what you wrote is just how I feel every day. I hardly eat and walk my dog every day. Still makes no difference and with the endo makes life difficult and I just seems to have one illness after another. I hate mirrors too. My consultant is gone off long term sick and so no support or decision are being made. It's crazy how I feel in my head. Hope you feel better soon. X

Hey, I get how you feel, I've felt that way for years; I'd been on the pill before, when I stopped it I found it's taking ages to lose the weight - gaining weight is one of it's side effects - even though docs say it isn't.

Is it bloating or actual weight? Bloating is one of those annoying symptoms of endo :(

I have started to shift my weight; I've reduced the amount of dairy I have, swapped for soya or almond alternatives, reduced red meat, and reduced gluten - these are all supposed to help endo symptoms too. I've found though it took about two to three months to start to see and feel the effects. Recently I've reduced my carbohydrates (including sugars) to complex carbs and sugar free alternatives (still have some calories but digested differently.

I know how you feel regarding doctors; they just expect you to lose weight and then list off all the problems. Like you don't know your own weight and losing it is easy to do. They forget the image problem we have and just make us feel awful :(

Have you tried different exercises; pole fitness? google it, it's not what you think, the new up and coming fitness, uses bodyweight training but in a feminine way :) I know it sounds weird but trust me it's awesome! makes you feel womanly, and anyone can go along, so there's no feeling that you can't do stuff. It works well with endo as there's no massive stretching when you start out, some women have various other diseases and they've blogged about it really helping them. It's been in the news recently; Fibromyalgia: 'Pole dancing helped my pain'

I've been going for a month and love it; there's some girls there that are slim, but most are like us, so it's amazing and inspiring to see what someone our weight can do! Most of all; we exercise while having a giggle with people that don't care how you look or what you're wearing :P

Btw I'm 34 and 12.5 stone, working on developing some muscle, the wobble going by itself.

Just remember you don't need to be slim to be healthy, just a little firmer; you need some curves, they define you :)

At the minute it’s both bloating and weight. I’ve put in weight but also become bloated from endo. I have a very restricted diet, I’m a vegetarian, but I can’t eat most fruit because they make me sick..it’s really difficult to cut certain things out because I get left with nothing. I’ve cut my calories down a lot, I’m drinking loads of water.

I’m so paranoid about exercising with other people..I used to get made fun of at the gym. My self confidence is so low at the minute. I’ll look into the pole fitness though.

I thought about doing weight lifting as that’s the one thing I was once good at.

My partner says I have curves and he tries to show me them, I argue that I’ve just got wide hips. Im just so upset all the time :( x

Aww, nooo, that sounds awful :(

Have you considered a DNA test? Another it sounds weird sort of thing I used when it had a sale as it costs quite a bit. They send you a cheek swab pack, you send it back, they process the results and you register your kit, all your results and explanations come through online for you to read in two setting clicks - simple and scientific. In summary it looks at all of your DNA an tells you about what food sensitivities you have, precursors to certain diseases, tendencies for food related issues, trends for exercising, ways of exercising that suits your DNA (your oxygen intake, lactic acid buildup etc.), stress trends - important for endo. It explains it all, and has a guide / nutritional plan - that's suited towards your DNA. I found it really insightful and loads to read that's all about you, no trends, no ideas, just facts. It may help you understand you :)

Weightlifting sounds like a great idea; I use bodyweight training as it just requires your own weight, also can be done at home for those not so confident days.

perhaps look up and do a 121 for pole fitness, I think that combined with your weightlifting and you'll be off to a good start :)

That sounds good. I’ll have a look into that, might give some more insight into what the hell is going on inside!

Thank you so much! X

All the time! The bloating is what gets to me the most.

I just a changed few things so my negative thoughts happened less often. I unfollowed anyone on social media that made me feel bad about myself and started following body positivity accounts. I started following Vegan food accounts that promote healthy eating but not diet culture. I know it seems so small but it has really helped seeing girls that have a similar body type to me be so free and confident. And the food which is literally almost completely plant based makes me feel super good inside ( I’m not vegan btw) I’m not saying this will work for you but it’s just a little suggestion. :)

I’ve completely come off social media, I avoid people who put me down, I’m just so sad all the time.

Thank you x

I found that when I went on the menopause it didn’t matter what I did I couldn’t lose weight and to maintain my weight I was having to do minimum of a 3 mile run every day!

I looked in to diets and nothing seemed to work until I did the keto diet - you do need will power but since January I’ve lost 12 inches without exercising - it doesn’t cost anything to do it (apart from buying food from the supermarket) I also found that it helped my hormone imbalance and reduced the amount of migraines I was having too so it’s been a massive improvement on my life! My self confidence is also so much better!

It may be worth considering? It’s done me the world of good!

The keto diet does sound interesting but I can't do it as I'm classed as pre-diabetic, anyone with blood sugar imbalance is advised not to do it. Makes sense, but a little frustrating :(

Hi! I’d speak to your doctor.....ketogenic diets are known to reverse diabetes in borderline diabetics 😊

They are advised not to do it without first consulting their doctor - in most cases I understand that you may need a higher carb intake to compensate for the sugar.....worth asking 😊

This sounds exactly like me! I am very down about my weight at the minute... In the last year I have put on just under 2stone... like you I loved my carido..and loved doing bootcamps 3days a week...but my back pain was getting worse and worse...during my lap in August they discovered my overies were fused together which appears to have caused most if the pain...it's only now in March that feel I can get back to the gym...but am planning to start off slowly as there are days when my back just feels like its gonna pop outta place...so am starting a local couch to 5k group before going full force back to bootcamps...i alway found i lost more weight running and slept much better after a run... most of my weight gain I have put down to prostrap injections ...my hip breasts and arms just feel swollen and none of my clothes fit!

It's so hard to get ur head in a good place when u are feeling down about your personal appearance.., but listen to your boyfriend! He wouldn't say it if he didn't mean it... u obviously have a good guy there and there hard to come by! Mayb ask him to get involved with you in something like a local 5k...you will be more inclined to stick it out and push yourself harder with him by your side
