Hallo everybody I have a question regarding with having endometriosis and doing IVF. I did IVF in september due to trying to get pregnant. I got sick really sick after egg retrieval. I got an infection in my stomach that don't go away. The doctors said that the infection started with me doing IVF and that the IVF did not reacted so well with my endometriosis. Have anyone experience sickness where you have to be in the hospital to get antibiotics in order for the infection to go away. I had also an swollen ovaries after egg retrieval and that also the infection spreading to my appendix which they had to remove trough surgery. I am wondering have anyone also experience this after egg retrieval and IVF? I am back in the hospital again because the infection came back for the second time. I did not expected this to happened to me when I read so many successful stories of woman having endometriosis and doing IVF.

IVF failure that have me in the hospital due to endometriosis
I’m sorry to hear of your experience. I’ve also got endometriosis and had egg retrieval in May this year, two days after I ended up in A&E with high temperature, agonising pelvic pain and muscle pain. I ended up with sepsis from a pelvic infection and was treated with IVAB. I was told that it was an infection so probably wouldn’t have been caused by the IVF medication.Your body does take quite a battering from the treatment regardless if you have endo but my symptoms have definitely worsened since starting. I had a failed transfer in August unfortunately and lost my embaby, hoping for better things in the New Year.
Take care and try to rest as much as you can, I know this is difficult when you’re in hospital
Not sure if that’s helpful to you or not? X
Thank you so much for replying. I thought I was the only one who is going trough this experience. It is hard I did not expected that through IVF this can happened to woman who have endometriosis. I do have high fever and up to this day I am still struggling with the high fever. I am not allowed to go home until I have no fever within 72 hours but that is hard at the moment. I am also so sorry for your experience and what you had to go through but thank you so much for replying means a lot to me. I hope also that things will get better for you in the New Year 🤗🤗🤗
That’s ok, it’s reassuring to know that you’re not on your own, allow yourself time and for your body to heal, this condition is awful and unfortunately we have no control over that. I think our body’s are already inflamed with the endo and obviously the ivf meds do make it worse and perhaps our bodies are feeling run down and this makes us more susceptible to inflections. Sending hugs to you and take care x
My cousin had this too. She has endo, she was hospitalised post egg retrieval. I have endo and was ok. I guess it’s where your endo is and if the needle goes through it into the ovaries?Take care and good luck x
Thank you for sharing your story and sorry to read about your suffering I would have never imagined you could experience infection after egg retrieval. I myself am looking into freezing my eggs, which would effectively involve egg retrieval. I imagine it follows a similar process to IVF so I'll be sure to ask the doctor about possible side effects for patients with endometriosis. I hope you make a speedy recovery x
